Are there any protein powders that taste similiar to premier protein. I have been using the chocolate flavored ones and like the taste but the cost is killing me. Any recommendations on something else i could try that would be less costly?
I would recommend getting maybe 4 - 5 samples and seeing what you like best. The chocolate ones that I liked that are pretty reasonably priced:
Optimum Nutrition Extreme Milk Chocolate or Double Rich Chocolate, Syntrax Matrix Milk Chocolate or Perfect Chocolate, Syntrax Nectar Chocolate Truffle.
You can get samples of all of those here:
Protein Powder Samples (1 Serving)
I also really like Chike Chocolate Bliss and Unjury Chocolate Splendor but they are kind of on the pricy side.
My other recommendations for making protein shakes generally - (1) an immersion/stick blender is the best way I have found to mix thoroughly and not get a lot of air bubbles in; and (2) if you haven't, experiment with what liquid you want to mix with. It depends on what you like, what is available to you, what you need more or less of - lower calories? Higher protein? Etc. I use CarbMaster milk which is high protein, low calorie, low carb, lactose free, and comes in plain, vanilla, and chocolate - but it isn't available everywhere, I think only at Kroger grocery stores. You may want to try regular skim milk, almond milk, soy milk, water - until you find something that works for you. Good luck!
I don't know what Premier costs or how many scoops. Unjury products are tasty and they have excellant customer service. You can also go to GNC or Walmart. I agree that I had no clue how costly this would be. I don't pay for the groceries in my home so its not like I'm exchanging one thing for another. I'm on a VERY LIMITED monthly income and it's killing me already. Well take care and Good Luck.
Costco sells a powder that tastes like the premier shake does, to me. The brand is CytoSport and I buy the 6lb bag. Tastes good with water or almond milk. I am using it post-op to get a portion of my daily protein requirement. Sometimes I add a scoop of Greek yogurt to up the protein count. Having some right now, in fact.
I also drink Iso Pure Grape Mist. I freeze it and before it is completely frozen I eat it like a slush. Helps with the taste when I do it this way.
You should be getting your protein elsewhere. ..chicken, steak, yogurt, cottage cheese, shrimp... I am down to one shake a day usually... What I am saving on fast food and junk... I buy my premier protein with. Good luck on your journey
I couldn't find anything that tastes as good as premier
I have drank Premier Protein since surgery. But I was in a mall the other day with my husband and he ate something from the food court. I realized I was more thirsty than hungry. I went into a GNC and they had pre made shakes in a fridge. Grabbed a GNC Lean in Chocolate and it is so much better than Premier Protein! I loved it!!!!!
I love premier protein. 30 grams of protein 1 gram of suger and 160 calories. At least 2 a day and most of your protein quota is met. As for price....the convenience is worth it for now.
Of course I should but not right after my surgery.
Pretty hard to get the protein elsewhere when my doc has me a liquid diet, at least until I see him again next week.
The reason I mentioned the CytoSport protein powder is because it tastes just like the Premier, to me. And is a cheaper alternative. I have both and prefer the chocolate to the other flavors.
