Default Surgery in 5 days - should I cancel

I'm am a nervous wreck, not sure if I'm doing the right thing. Thinking about backing out. Is this normal? Has anyone else felt like this? Really worried about long term - 10,20 years out. I keep hearing all these stories about this being best decision they ever made, but was wondering if there's anyone that regrets it? So confused.

I felt the same way. I was actually suprised when I woke up from anesthesia that I went through with it. I did everything I needed to do but I had that little twinge of doubt. The next think I know I'm what, 7 weeks out and 55 lbs. down I feel great and can pretty much eat what I want. It's an amazing feeling. You make the best choice for you but I know this was the best choice for me!! Good luck!

I looked at my decision to have surgery like this... I could either have the surgery and get healthy, or NOT have the surgery and most likely be overweight, unhealthy and unhappy for the rest of my life! There was no question in my mind about what I had to do for myself! Best decision ever! Not one ounce of regret! Best wishes! You're gonna do great!

So glad I did it. Besides being healthier and happier it has completely changed my relationship with food at only 45 days out. I am changed for the better! Someone said it earlier but keep in mind the reasons you are doing this surgery and you'll get through it!

I am thrilled with the results. The surgery and recovery were easy. I mourn the loss of the pleasure of eating, but carrying 117 pounds less w00eight makes my life so much easier, I am 66 years old and knew that if I didn't do something about my weight I did not need to worry about 5 years down the road let alone 10 or 20. I don't know your age, BMI, and what health issues you have. Look at the quality of life you now have and realize that it will only get worse as you age. Nobody can make the decision, but you, by having this surgery it will change your life forever, I see my old pictures and am appalled by how bad I looked.

Regret losing 100 pounds+???? Nobody will ever say they regret it, just regrets of not doing it sooner. 10-20 years could you gain all your weight back? Absolutely! But treat this as your 2nd chance on life and be smarter this time!!! Regret it? NEVER!!!!

I was fine up until about a week before surgery then I started freaking out. I thought about canceling it too but I kept thinking about why I was doing the surgery and what led me to the bariatric clinic in the first place. I went through with the surgery, and now I am glad I did. It helped they gave me some versed too, calmed me the heck down right before my surgery.

Everyone is scared on some level. I have been through several surgeries in my lifetime, and this one was an easy recovery. I wouldn't go back for anything. 90lbs down in just over 5 months. Best decision ever!

I'm being sleeved on Thursday, so I empathise with you totally! Am I scared? Yes! Am I stressed? Yes (a bit) Would I feel absolutely devastated if for some reason the surgery was cancelled? ABSOLUTEY!! I know that this operation is the answer to my lifelong battle with my weight and that ultimately it will stop me getting a whole host of medical weight - related illnesses. It also helps to know that, of all the posts that I've read on this forum, I haven't seen ANY that say they regret having it done! I wish you the very best of luck with your decision (and your surgery, if you choose to go ahead.)

Yes, it was scary knowing I was going into a major surgery I had planned. I did stress, but I did it, and it was amazing and so worth it. Since October I have gone from a size 20 to a size 8. I fit on an airplane seat. I went to the beach and wore a swim suit! I wear shorts. I enjoy walking and exercising. I guarantee you won't regret it!!!

I read recently that being overweight can reduce your lifespan by 14 years. This is more than what smoking does to your lifespan. You ask about 10-20 years out and the way I see it is if you don't have surgery you may not have 10-20 years. It's common to have fears about the surgery but the bigger fear should be what will your life and health be like if you don't have it. Best of luck on your decision and your journey.
My weight at start of my 2 week pre-op diet was 232
My weight on the morning of surgery was 221

What are you scared of? The surgery? If so, consider how you'd feel if you had to have your spleen removed because it was slowly killing you. Would you even think twice? I wouldn't, but I did doubt VSG because society tells us surgery for weight loss is the cheat's way out. When you consider the alternative options - a lifetime of dieting and being unhealthy with a possible chance of losing some of it (and the usual regain for me) it makes sense. This is LIFE SAVING surgery. If this surgery means I can enjoy a healthy life and be active and comfortable in my skin (saggy though it may be!) then surgery it is for me! Good luck!
