Wound infection?? (Gross photo included)

Going to the doctor tomorrow to have this looked at. All my incisions were healing great and this one seemed fine but had a big scab. Until today, after my shower, half the scab fell off and it looked like a big hole with all this gunk in it. It doesn't hurt, it's not warm to touch and it has no foul odor. My surgery was 20 days ago too. Did anyone experience anything like this?

It doesn't look infected to me - but it's never a bad idea to have them checked.

Mine were red around the edges also and I have very sensitive skin but they are healing well.

I have one that looks similar right under my bra line. The scab is just barely holding on. I have been cleaning it with peroxide a couple times a day and putting a bandaid on to stop it from rubbing directly with my bra. Mine isn't hot or smelly either, just really angry. Post what your doctor says about it, I'm going to show mine to my doctor on Monday. Good luck!!

I had this happen on my biggest incision site and I got it checked out with the nurse at my surgery. She advised it was a localised infection and that it would heal on its own. Well, it is healing, although it is taking a long time(I am now 1 month post op). All my other sites have healed nicely. Hope you get it sorted. M x

Looks just like one of mine. Seems to keep scabbing, and once the scab comes off, it's a little hole again, that rescabs. I don't think it looks infected, but check to be sure.

looked like the one i had from my gallbladder removal. was told it was fine and that it just need more time to heal. i put neosporin on it and a band aid for 2 days then let it air dry after that and it healed just fine.

It doesn't look infected to me. You healing from the inside out and the incision sometimes look a little funky while healing. 1 of my 4 incisions looked like this until 4 weeks post-op. It had a tiny suture poking out that i could feel; it was annoying and weird but not infected. It just took a little longer to heal than the other spots. Good luck!

The one below my sternum looked like that. It oozed & smelled slightly. I kept it super clean & changed bandage 2x daily. My doc called in some antibiotics just in case, and it healed quickly with the scar looking no worse than the others. Good luck!

Yes I have 2 just like that, I have treating it with tea tree oil and now polysporin topically. I think my Doc forgot a stitch on one of them and the other one opened up after we took the stitch out. Let me know what the Doctor tells you today. Good Luck. Don't worry too much it doesn't look that bad maybe a little bit inflammed.

Well, it turns out that it was infected! Doc prescribed me an antibiotic for it. So if yours looks like this, doesn't hurt to get it looked at.

I know! I almost skipped out on going to the doctor because it seemed like a common occurrence but I am glad I went anyway. Hopefully this will prompt others to do the same thing!

looks like maybe you took the stitches out too soon? they told me to use butterfly bandage if needed.... i was diabetic. slower healer, and waited a couple extra days on a couple of them .................. glad your dr helped you out!! good luck on your journey!

I actually waited 14 days. Crazy right? The other ones were fine thank goodness. Thanks for the kind words. Best wishes to you too
