wife had the gallbladder thing

My wife, who had the sleeve April 14, 2013, is added to the list of sleeve patients who went on to have gallbladder issues. She had a gallstone stuck in her bile duct the past week, though we didn't know it, instead thinking she had food poisoning after diagnosis of such by doctor in New Orleans (despite blood work that showed her liver function tests were through the roof - numbers were like 600 when they were supposed to be between 30 and 50 or something like that). She had several episodes of pain and nausea. Saturday night, after going to a comedy club, she was in pain again and we went to ER and found out she had many gallstones and one in particular blocking the opening to the intestine in the bile duct and her gallbladder was infected but fortunately the pancreas was unaffected. She had the stone removed this morning endoscopically and will have the gallbladder removed tomorrow morning. Its been a rough and scary week, but hopefully all goes well tomorrow and she can get back to normal life again.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that it is a likelihood for many of us sleevers, it is just a shame that it happened to her. I hope that she feels better soon!

I am so sorry that you both have had such a rough week. I also had gallstone/gallbladder problems just 3 months after my sleeve. I think it is important for all of our sleeved community to know that this is a common problem. When something is not feeling right to ask the question "have you looked at my gallbladder". The doctors were sure it wasn't my problem because I didn't have physical pain when they pushed in the gallbladder area. My only symptom was that no matter what I ate I got terrible heartburn, so bad that I would throw-up. The tests showed no doubt that it was my gallbladder.
I wish you a great day tomorrow. I sending good thoughts that she will feel better immediately after her surgery. Good luck to you also, waiting is sometimes just as bad.

Godspeed on her recovery. I had severe gallbladder issues 2 years before being sleeved and it did infect my pancreas and my liver. I wound up having to have a stint put in for the liver and developed diabetes because of the pancreas. Since being sleeved my Blood Sugars have become normal again and I pray they stay that way. Prayers for her speedy recovery.

I have a question- since so many people have this problem post surgery, why don't the doctors automatically remove it with our surgeries. The thought of having to return for this surgery at a later point is frightening. I NEVER want to have surgery again!

I have been reading about a lot of problems with weight loss and gallbladder issues.

I'm glad I opted for the Optional GallBladder removal when I get sleeved at the end of this month.
