Yes yes yes!!! My highest in the hospital was 399. This morning it was 116.
Are you off all medicine and insulin. Netekay???
I was diagnosed with Type 2 during my pre-op work ups. I was on pills about a month before surgery and was taken off them after I left the hospital after surgery. My sugars have been normal since.
It can vary depending on how long you have had Diabetes and how bad your pancreas is. If you've had Diabetes for over 10 years, you will most likely not get to reverse or have your Diabetes in remission. As told to me by my doctor, Dr. John Phillips.
I was on metformin and actos before surgery and after I only took metformin for about another 3 months after surgery. I haven't had to take anything for over a year but my endocrinologist said weight gain may possibly cause to to reappear.
I was taking 1000mg of Metformin 2 times a day, Cycloset 2.5mg 3 each morning, Byduren injection once a week, all for Diabetes and I was taking Lavaza for hich Chlorestal. I have not taken any of these medicines since my surgery on May 10, 2013. I have seen my Endocronolgists 2 times since my surgery and my last two A1c's were 6.6 and 6.5 respectivly. He now lists my Diabetes as "controlled by diet". So yes it has most assuredly helped me. Godspeed on your journey.
Preop I was on insulin 4x/day and even then my glucose was barely controlled. My last dose of insulin was the right before surgery. No oral meds either. My last 2 a1C's have been perfectly normal and I'm no longer considered diabetic. Everyone's body is different though, so you may not have my level of success. The majority of people with Type 2 diabetes do see some measure of improvement from the surgery. Good luck.
It most certainly has! The day I left the hospital my surgeon told me that my sugars had dropped greatly and to stay off my pills from now on. I checked my sugar at home for the 3 weeks that followed and they were great. Have never had a problem since. That was almost 6 months ago.
Not everyone is as lucky. I have been diabetic about 6 years and was on metformin before surgery. In hospital they must have gotten high sugars, because they put me on insulin - the first time I have ever been on insulin. Today - 3 months later, I am still on insulin - my sugars are about 120-140 but I have to take Lantus once a day. (15mg). If my sugar goes above 150 then I need to take humalog. Very disappointed - but finally have accepted the fact that I am one of the unique ones that have a reversal in the wrong direction.
