How long after gastric sleeve before you can have a drink?

    8 month goal- 185 lbs (Conquered 11.5.2014, 12 days before I hit 8 months)
    12 month goal-175 lbs (Conquered 3.5.2014, 12 days before I hit 12 months)
Final goal- 170 lbs. (2 lbs to this goal)

    103 lbs lost... I ROCK!!!!!!!!!

I waited 2 months (per my doc) and had 1/2 a glass of wine. No hard liquor, sweet drinks or beer.

Its all empty calories and will go straight through your sleeve so its worth being careful. I was told that the affects of alcohol are more pronounced after the sleeve so it might be a good idea to stay away from driving until you understand its affects on you now?

Listen to your doctor - I waited a couple months. I've had a few sips of wine. I love a sip or two of a good Margarita. I've done just fine. I think everything in moderation works best for me.

Well my husband and I sat on our deck in this beautiful 70 degree Louisiana weather tonight. He had a glass of beer and I had a glass of british hard cider. This is the first time since my surgery that I had a glass of the "hard stuff". We celebrated my 100 lb weight loss. Did I get high quick? HELL YES. LOL. Did it feel wonderful? YES it did.
IT'S BEEN ALMOST TEN YEARS NOW SINCE MY SURGERY. AND IM STILL GOING STRONG!!!!!!

Congratulations on your loss! It is SUCH a wonderful milestone isn't it? Yay for you, and your husband and future.

To the OP, I will say what RRT said about it feeling wonderful is something to watch out for if you find you are doing that all time. I'm not AT ALL direction this at RRT, because I've enjoyed the effects of a faster uptake on the alcohol more than once. I am actually mentioning it because of a period of time I went through and had to take a hard look at MY volume of consumption because it was so easy to push it too far. I realized I was trading on overindulgence with another and it wasn't healthy, or safe. Having a drink is great and wonderful (once your doctor says so), but we aware that you don't overdo it.

Cheers and good luck on your journey.

I was about three months out before I had anything alcohol related. Now and then I will have a glass of wine but it is a one I snagged from an airplane and it only holds about an ounce and a half. I usually only have about an ounce or wine when I do drink it. But I just don't want to waste my limited calories on alcohol right now. Maybe later when I am in maintenance mode but right now, I still have 15 pounds to lose to hit goal.
