    Default Hair issues....

    Hi guys,

I guess the days of not getting enough protein in the beginning finally caught up with me. I'm almost three months in as of two more days and I have a small bald spot on the right side of my head above my ear. :-( I thought the hair falling out would be more like breakage but its an actual bald spot. Anyone else experiencing this? I know for a fact that in the beginning weeks I was severely under on my protein intake because the shakes would make me gag.

Try looking for foods higher in protein and make sure even your snacks have protein. For instance, I snake on Krave turkey jerky which has 9g of protein in 1 oz. Another thing that has helped me is myfitnesspal. I have found several vsg patients on my fitness pal who share their food journals. Often time I will take a look at what they are eating to get ideas of things I could try. Here is a sample meal day for me:

    Breakfast: turkey sausage and milk
2 jimmy dean maple turkey sausage: 11 grams protein
4 ozs skim lactaid milk 30 minutes later:4 grams of protein

    Lunch: fish taco
1 piece of Kirkland Signature (Costco Brand) Tilapia Loins: 23 grams protein
Whole grain taco shell: 1 gram of protein
1/2 Serving of Sargento Lowfat Shredded Four Cheese: 4 grams of protein

Dinner: turkey sliders and protein chips
2 oz Plainville Ground Turkey: 12 grams protein
1/2 slice of Sargento ultra thin cheddar cheese: 1.5 grams protein
Health wise BBQ Protein Chips: 10 grams protein

Total protein: 66.5 grams of protein

Hope this helps. If you want to add me on myfitnesspal my name is Sunbunny629

I love this idea of sharing food ideas with others and I also use myfitnesspal. Would it be ok if I add you?

Now I'm really worried. I'm having the issue now of barely able to get those shakes down. I know it's going to catch up with me. I try everything, but I'm still struggling. Okay, bald spot may make me work harder. I thought it would be more thinning. Sorry. I guess this is one of the prices.

Well, I love this idea. I would love to join in with more Sleevers on MFP. I had a few but two have dropped off and Think (member name)is the only one active. Can I add you as well? BY the way, my MFP name is ItzFitKat.

Back to the hair issue, I have noticed extra hair falling out but not in one spot. It is more like all over thinning. I got up to my protein goals pretty quick but still saw heavier hair loss that I expected. Is this by chance the side you sleep on?

    hey guys,

Little Verbena- it is on the side i sleep on. However, I have long thick hair and never any issues with it falling out so I know this is due to the sleeve/not getting enough protein in the beginning.

Its nothing major its one quarter size spot in area that you can camouflage. my thing is that I hope it doesn't continue.

denise.jordan39- I was told if you don't get enough protein in the beginning something about your hair shaft or something going into shock and around the 3rd month it starts coming out. I just didn't think it would be a bald spot. I mean there's still some hair there but its so thin its practically bald in a small area. I would just do my best with the protein and don't worry.

I have to be honest, I knew that I would lose some hair so I took the coward way out and cut mine short. Now when it falls out I don't notice it as much. Also, I brush it really well before I wash it so I don't get that big clog in the drain. Sure I have to clean out my brush but since the hairs are shorter it doesn't look like much is there. I am six months out now and I don't have the same amount of hair lose I did at four months out so if definitely gets better.

I started almost exactly at three months. Mine was a lot of thinning. Haven't gotten a bald spot yet.

There was a thread or blog earlier today on the subject of hairloss. Greenmomma suggested googling telogen effluvium. It's all about temporary hairloss. Here's the webmd link that I read:

Effluviums (Telogen and More): Causes, Treatments, and More

Check it out ... interesting and informative.

    Here is my hair "recipe":
10000mcg biotin, Nioxin type 3 shampoo and scalp therapy conditioner (comes as a set on amazon), biolage fiberstrong conditioner, It's a 10 spray leave in conditioner, Nioxin Diamax thickening xtrafusion treatment, and a "wet brush". Don't wash your hair every day. Brush it only when absolutely necessary. Brush right before you wash.
    Shower routine:
Wash with Nioxin 3 shampoo and rinse
Use Nioxin 3 scalp therapy conditioner on roots
Biolage fiberstrong on length of hair.
Let sit for a few minutes.
    Rinse
Dry by squeezing the length with a towell to get excess water out. Hair is vulnerable when wet so be gentle
    Put Nioxin Diamax on roots
Spray "It's a 10" in length of hair
Brush starting at ends and work your way up with the wet brush. It's a detangling brush. Takes out much less hair.
You can also use some Silk Therapy in the length of your hair after it's brushed. This keeps it super soft.
I know this sounds like a lot of product in your hair, but it is all super lite.
This is my ritual and I have lost no hair.
    Also, at least 60g protien.

You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be better.

I am 7 months out and my hair has been falling since month 3. I am soooo disgusted. My thick beautiful hair use to be one of my best features. I get at least 100-130 grams of protein daily, take biotin, fish oil and just started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I honestly think that my horomones are off from all the change in my body. I just want it to stop!!

Thanks guys. I haven't seen any more hair fall out and I hope it stays that way. My hair is already growing back in the small bald spot. I really hope that this is the end of the hair falling out.
