Default Questions for those who do hard core exercise

I was sleeved on Nov. 15 and have lost 53 lbs so far, which is slow, but wonderful for me. For the past couple of weeks, I have been doing pretty tough work outs (spin classes, weight/toning classes, etc.). I am now in a stall - not gaining, but not losing. I have lost a little in the way of inches during the stall - but not what I would like to see with the intensity and duration of my workouts. I would like to hear from others if you experienced the same thing - and how you might have worked past it. Thanks in advance !

My Doctor told me that would happen once I started exercising. Your body has to check up with all the changes. Also you have to eat a lot more carbs and protein when you work out to burn the fat. Guess that is why I haven't worked out yet. Too scared. You will find the balance keep working, don't stress about it and EAT

so I'm 9 months post op and I've been doing P90X and P90X3 and I'm down 125 lbs. I'm doing the lean workouts which is mostly cardio so I would suggest doing more cardio and less weights.

I agree that the more you work out the more carbs and therefore calories you have to eat. You need to make sure you net enough calories to continue to lose weight. I lost VERY slowly when I first started working out and it was before I figured this out. Also, if you can add a stretching class like Yoga once a week that can also make a big difference. That and pilates help build lean muscle.

There was a great article posted on here about how gaining weight or stalling due to not eating enough calories is NOT possible. If you eat fewer calories than you burn you will lose weight. Period. Weights are good, lifting heavy is good. It helps fight osteoporosis, you feel stronger and look fitter. Your posture improves. Cardio is important too but BOTH is important. As heavy of weights as you can bear, lifting TO FAILURE. Meaning you want to not be able to finish 10 reps or whatever (work up to 3 sets of 10 reps) women don't have enough testosterone to grow large muscles from lifting. This is all my personal experience. I have lifted with a trainer on and off for yrs, (up and down yo yo weight, u can imagine when I did and didn't- I would end up back at gym 80 lbs heavier ugh) stalling happens. Do something different to break it. Dbl duty cardio (morning and late afternoon/evening) is my usual go to, but shaking up your diet (I've heard) works too. I have never heard "I ate more calories" alone worked. Others I'm sure have a different experience. That's mine.

This is happening to me too. I am working out up to two hours between 3-5 days a week and even the days I don't work out I get in at least 5000-7000 steps. Maybe to some of you this does not seem like a lot but considering I bet there were days I got 500 steps all day, it is a lot for me. I do treadmill, cycling, circuit training and I have just started the elliptical but can only do about 5min right now. I am not losing like I feel I should be. I have been in a stall for a while now.

I have to comment on this one. You and I had surgery 2 days apart. I have lost 53 pounds. 53 FREAKIN POUNDS IN LESS THAN 4 MONTHS!!! That's INCREDIBLE!! Yay us!! When would we have ever lost that much pre sleeve? In no way is that slow.
Give yourself a pat on the back and strut that 53 pounds lighter ass. We are doing great!! Be proud of it. You are doing phenomenal! !

You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be better.

Don't forget to drink lots of water. You may be losing inches, the body toning up.

You're doing awesome with the exercise! I reckon the elliptical will help because it's mixing it up for your body, which will have to adjust to the new exercise and burn far in the process. Have you tried weights? They build muscle mass which burns calories even when resting and, as Dana says, is great for avoiding osteoporosis, particularly after menopause. I can personally recommend vibration training from a qualified person. Only takes 15 mins and you start feeling toned from the first session. I plan to use it again post-surgery as it's just the same effect as using weights, without actually using weights.

Keep going! You're doing great! :-)

Just keep doing what you're doing! Exercise will only make you healthier and fitter, so don't worry if you happen to stall a little. I love to work out, and probably lose slower than the other people on these boards.

Skibabe I have never heard of vibration training. It sounds really interesting. I don't life actual weight but I do some machines that use weights as part of my circuit training.

Debbie my dad said something that really resonated with me. it is not just about the number on the scale. I am doing things that four months ago I could never have done and I bet you are too. Think of all the NSVs. My confidence level is up, I am off some meds, I can be by myself more easily. I can walk farther. I can exercise. etc... I bet you can make a list just like this.
