You say the tools used are new? So does that mean theyopen a new set of tools for each surgery? Or do they sterilize them after each use? Or are you saying they are up to date tools? Sorry if theses questions seem crazy. ... and also the monitor they use to see inside your stomach is it an up to date one?

Hello Dave and welcome to the Sleeved Side! I am glad that overall you had a good experience. To bad that overall thing have not changed to much from when he did 8-16 surgeries daily and the post-op was in a hotel.

    Good luck,

    Stacy

YIKES! I almost went with Dr Almanza for my surgery last May but kept reading things that scared me and sadly I seem to still read that it is a production line and the staff doesn't really care. I'm so glad I changed my mind on who I went to!

When I was being lead to the surgery table I observed one of the people un packaging tools. There was also a lot of scrubbing going on before I went in I could hear metal clinking together like some one was washing dishes.

I couldn't tell you exactly what was cleaned and re used for sure except I know for sure the stapler thing they use to cut out your stomach was being taken out of a package. I was able to identify that due to the video's I watched.

Yeah, its pretty much the same as everyone else reported. It seems like he's wanting to retire early lol. If you think about it his nurses make $350 USD a week. They are his highest paid staff besides the Internal Medicine guy that does EKG.

    Even at his average 14 a day that's $4,500 x 14 = $63,000 a day Gross Profit a day

    -$63,000 x 5 = $315,000 a business week
    -$1,260,000 a Month
    -$15,120,000 a year roughly.

Not sure what his cut of this is but that's an assload of Paso's

All I can say is WOW. It's funny how this forum works. When you tell your experience in great detail it's OK. But when I try to share my experience with Dr. Quinones I get accused of promoting my surgeon!! I can tell you my experience WAS totally different from your!! If people would not assume that just because a particular surgeon's name flashes everywhere and advertises like crazy that he must be the best.

Like I've posted many times before, just because I had my surgery in Tijuana I don't feel that I have to settle for less or lower my standards of what I would expect in the US.

Thanks Dave for the post. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Maybe there isn't a way to feel....it is what it is. Your description if your experience doesn't scare me as some suggest. I think it helps me be more prepared. I am a therapist and I work with people and their emotions everyday. Sometimes there isn't an opinion or emotion to attach to something...it just is. Lol...I really appreciate your objective review of your experience. I Luke to use sarcastic humor as a defense mechanism and it sounds like this could be an experience that I need to tap into my reserves! Lol ... Congrats to you and your surgery cohort and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Totally not intending to scare anyone, as I have said before I would do It all over again and I wouldn't have any issues with Dr. Almanza. Even though you are just a number in line you get what you pay for. I'm home with no issues other than some reflux, he did a good job surgery wise.

Sorry you get attacked. I'm trying to stay out of those "my surgeon could beat up your surgeon" arguments lol. The things I have pointed out have been stated several times just scattered in different posts.

I don't feel like I settled because there were so many good reviews. Despite the bad stuff ive mentioned. I would do it all over again!

Great review Dave. That is the best & most helpful review format. Not just a litany of complaints or a glowing report over how perfect things were. Thank you for taking the time to put up that review & it's clear you are being objective & keeping it balanced.

Dave and/or Angella67, do you still have to take your own stitches out? Do you get pain meds or antibiotics? If so, what kind? Do they have bottled water?
