I've seen the surgeon, nutritionist and had the psych eval. Follow up with the surgeon is in three weeks. I'm hoping to have a surgery date sometime in late March. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover this procedure and it will be self-pay. Has anyone else done self-pay? If so, how much was your surgery? Mine is going to be around 15K.

Welcome Betty. I'm just a little farther along--surgery scheduled 2/10. Tears came to my 58 yr. old eyes when I got approval. I wish you the same joy I had, and wish us both much success.

Welcome. It sounds like your moving right along, probably cause your self pay . I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and then psych on Tuesday. I dont think I will be sailing along like you cause I am going the insurance route. I am not sure what my cost will be but I am thinking something around 2k. I wonder after you surgery if you could ask the hospital to write some of it off? Sometime they will take 20-30% off your bill. I never hurts to ask.

Hello BetsyP and welcome to the forum. My insurance did not cover any kind of weight loss surgery so I did my research and found an amazing surgeon in Tijuana Mexico. My surgery cost me $4000 plus my airfare. Keep in mind that's what I paid last year. I had my surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinones in Tijuana on January 12, 2013 and it was the best decision I could have made. I would and do strongly recommend Dr. Quinones to anyone who is considering weight loss surgery in Mexico. Dr. Quinones only performs 3 surgeries daily, they are performed in a private hospital. The more I did my research I came to realize that Dr. Quinones was my best option in Tijuana. Please feel free to private message me here or email (stacyeckel@gmail.com) me. I will be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns about my experience in Tijuana with Dr. Quinones. Many people don't know about Dr. Quinones because he chooses not to advertise, 90% of Dr. Quinones patients come from other patient referrals.

I thought about going to Mexico, but I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old at home and would hate to have to travel in case any complications came up after surgery. I'm glad that yours went so well.
