Sudden Diarrhea - Antibiotics / Z-pack - Medicine - Food - Dumping Syndrome??

Do antibiotics (Z pack) cause dumping syndrome? I have a terrible cold and took my first round of 2 pills -first day- of my Zpack. 5 hours later, during my Christmas dinner, NO PRE-PAIN or anything!!!!!!, I said, "I have to go to the bathroom!" I literally started 'going' with no pre-warning at all!! Talk about horrible!!! About 20 minutes later I had another diarrhea episode, not as watery, and haven't done anything since!

So - what caused this? Was it the antibiotics, or what I was eating at that exact moment? Bad stuff - about 1/3 cup hashbrown casserole, about 4 bites of ham, a brown-n-serve Roll with a little butter.. YES, a little bit of Bad stuff, but I'm over 1.5 yrs post op and normally don't have diarrhea too much anymore and have NEVER had diarrhea with NO Pre-Pain or warning!!

Was it the antibiotics? What is the rule for meds as a sleever??

I have been told that papaya enzymes are good for the tummy too

All antibiotics can certainly cause you to have those symptoms. Get some probiotics and some yogurt with live active cultures and take daily after you are done with the antibiotics. With Azithromycin it has some residual action, so be sure to take for at least 2-3 weeks.

Usually dumping syndrome has the hot flash/ sweaty feeling in combination with the diarrhea.

PS: I had no medication restrictions past the two week point, where I could take anything (including ECASA, enteric coated aspirin.)

I'm on Clindamyicin and though the bottle warms about diarrhea no issues yet. I do take a daily probiotic and Greek yogurt every morning. I did have my first normal bm today without the help of a stimulant, yay!

I got the flu two days after being sleeved. The antibiotics gave me the big D the entire time I took them. They couldnt give me the Z pack so I got the equivalent in a liquid. Been there with the no warning stuff too. Had to take several showers in the first days because I didnt make it. Hope you feel better soon:-)

I had a couple of those 'accidents' in the first 2 weeks after my surgery, before I went back to work. I was scared to DEATH of it happening at work!! (Quite a ways to the bathroom) And, like I read on here, someone said, "Never trust a fart!" Hahhaha!! I guess you could always just keep a change of underwear, baby wipes, etc, in your locker at work.. I have luckily never done it at work.. and yesterday was the first day I'd ever done it "out" anywhere! I ended up having to take my mom's little sack out of her garbage can, take my underwear off, put it in the sack, and go commando!! LOL! Ended up throwing my underwear away!!! Thank God my pants were still fine!!

Awww, the things we share here..........but, I figure if we can't be honest with each other - fellow sleevers - who can we be honest with? I think we all need to share the good, bad, and the ugly so we know we aren't alone!

Yeah, the Z pack always does diarrhea for me. Never had it without warning before though, just not always enough warning.
I kinda live with a soft/liquid stool anyway for the last 10 years so I thought maybe the bad diarrhea with antibiotics was just a further symptom of my gall bladder issues.

I don't ever remember any side effects with anti-biotics.... In my "previous" before surgery life! Except for when I took Keflex for 11 days straight when I had cellulitis in my lower leg. I had an allergic reaction and ended up looking like a reptile!! Spotted all over!!

I got a UTI right after surgery bc of the catheter. They put me on cipro and I didn't have any problems, but z packs in the past have usually made my tummy sick. Antibiotics in general cause tummy problems.
