    Default New person here!

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for a few months now. My surgery is Dec 24th and I'm terrified. The surgery is one part of that but honestly, I'm afraid of the vomiting.....can you all let me know how bad it's going to be? I'm pretty determined but am getting close to chickening out.

Two months out and I have never been sick to my stomach. I never had a problem drinking my liquids or getting in my protein goals daily. Hope you will be as lucky! Be calm and think of how amazing it will be to lose weight, it's so worth it!

I imagine everyone has that scared feeling before any kind of life changing surgery. I have not had my sleeve yet but throwing up never crossed my mind. The hospital will give you anti nausea meds. Just take one day at a time Much good luck to you!

Every journey begins with one small step....

I never vomited until I went to solid foods (about 4 weeks out). Like you I was worried about it, mainly because I was afraid of messing something up inside. The most common cause of my vomiting was due to over eating. It is a very different full feeling than what you are used to. You really have to stop before you feel full because if you eat till you feel it, then it's too much. Took me a couple tries to realize that, but when I did it was much better. Also, it seems weird, but you can generally tell if a food is going to make you nauseous after the first few small bites. At the slightest discomfort, stop. I also learned that one the hard way . Good luck and I hope all goes well!

I have had no problem with vomiting not one time. Your doctor will also prescribe something to help you with this if it does happen. I didn't use any of mine. You are just nervous and that is very common right now. Just keep talking to us so we can help to calm your nerves. It will be the best thing that I could have ever done for myself.

I felt the same way! I've only been sick like that when I had to drink this chalky stuff to have a colonoscopy. I haven't gotten sick or even felt nauseous once. I was fine waking up from surgery too. Surgery was so much easier than I thought it would be! Minimal pain etc. Go for it! You won't regret it. It can be your Christmas present to yourself! Keep us posted.

I had some dry heaving or I guess what could be classified as vomiting (since my stomach was empty there was nothing to come out!) 3 times in the hospital but the nurses have this amazing medicine called zofran they can put In your IV. If that doesn't work they have another called phenergan. I came home with a prescription of both. Sometimes if I drink too much I feel a bit nauseas but it passes quick and I haven't taken a single prescription. I was so scared for my surgery I asked for a Ativan (anti-anxiety) med as soon as I signed my consent! 9 days post-op and my biggest thing is missing "real" food. I am sick of drinking everything and not being able to drink faster. I am totally not hungry either but get dizzy and a little sick feeling if I go more than 12 hours with only water. I feel practically normal and even returned to work.

Good luck! Being nervous is normal!

I am almost 3 months out and have never thrown up, well thats not true. I did 2 times in the hospital. Once when I had to drink the barium and the other the first time they gave me liquid pain killer verse the IV painkiller...Everyone has thier own experience though. I feel back to 100%...It does take time to heal, and feel normal again but you will survive. I do not regret my choice at all..Good luck on whatever you decide to do

    Hi,

I'm almost four weeks out from my VSG and have not had any vomiting. Like the others have stated, you get where you can tell when you get close to full. If I overdo, I feel sick to my stomach, and then lay down 'til it passes. It's been a great post-op experience, very little pain, didn't even need pain meds after...it's been fun learning how to live with my new stomach and encouraging to see the pounds AND inches come off, I've dropped a size in less than three weeks and feeling pretty good about myself for a change.

You'll do great, you have much to look forward to in your new life!

    hugs,
    tina

I have only had three episodes of vomiting and it was because I ate something not cooked thoroughly and ate to quickly the other two times.

The only time I threw up during the first 3 months was in the hospital - nausea from pain meds.
Then it's only been if I eat too fast or something that doesn't sit right even now - like hamburger, hard cooked eggs or raw veggies(besides lettuce)...
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.
