ohhh...thanks! I just ante'd up for the Fitbit Force - but it's on backorder until Xmas. Of course, that little fact is nowhere on their website or on the order UNTIL you've already placed it. I will check out the Body Media and if it is waterproof (for swimming) I may very well send the FITBIT back.
Did you ante up for the Media?
I did. I like it because there is a gyrometer inside it and it tends to be more sensitive to movement. It will count the steps on my elliptical where many others will not. I plan on upgrading to the bluetooth model as I like the 'real time' knowledge. I don't believe they are waterproof though.
I don't know much about the FitBit, but I am really liking the sensitivity of the BodyMedia device. Measures the technical data like heart rate and perspiration through the skin to give you your total daily energy expendature (TDEE) and then I can see exactly what kind of deficit I am creating. I have it linked to MFP and RunKeeper, so it will automatically deduct my moderate/strenuous exercise when I plug in the device. It doesn't count things like housework unless you get your heart rate up to a fat burning mode, but it still counts steps and your energy expenditure. My TDEE right now is about 2200 cals, and I am eating typically around 700-800 cals. So without exercise I should lose 2 pounds a week. Even with exercise I don't see that changing a whole lot until I can get more calories in. I am good with a couple pounds a week, since I knew at my weight I was not going to sustain 4-5 pound weekly losses for very long.
Will be curious to hear how the new FitBit model works!
Using the link it comes to $75 US and shipping is free and the first year subscription is free. $6.95/mo after the first year. This is for the core. As long as it updates to myfitnesspal, I wouldn't care to have instant updates for the extra money.

Here is the statement on the website on waterproof??
Is the Armband waterproof or is there such a model?
No, the Armband is water resistant, not waterproof, and is not designed to be used underwater or to come into continuous contact with water. Do not immerse the Armband in water or perform water-based activities, such as swimming or bathing, while wearing the Armband. Water activities can manually be added to the system using the Edit Off-Body feature.
As a water resistant device, the Armband works properly when it comes in contact with rain, fog, or sweat.
