My first two weeks are 2-3 protein shakes per day; water, broth, diet gelatin or crystal light.
2d two weeks are 2 shakes per day plus 1/4 cup of soft protein plus any allowable clear fluid.
4-8 weeks: 2 shakes per day plus 1/4 to 1/2 cup protein food and 1/4 cup soft vegetable OR fruit
8-26 weeks: diet progresses according to patient's tolerance of foods. Continue with 1 to2 protein shakes a day and drink adequate fluids. Now two meals may consist of a protein food plus 1/4 cup of vegetables plus 1/4 cup fruit. In time may add 1-2 tablespoons of whole grain like brown rice or oats at each meal.
