    Default Oh boy

hi every one, while im still waiting on a surgery date. I was told my the nutritionist that for my protien i should start trying some now so I will now what I like when the time comes,so today I went to a nutrition store that my nutritionist suggested. well first of all I was a bit overwhelmed. but the guy that helped me was very nice he ended up giving me several samples of some protien powder. Well he put them in baggies so I have no idea what flavors they are (which i think i could figure out) but the directions say add 1 scoop well I dont know what a scoop would be compared to teaspoon, tablespoon or what then he was kind enough to give me a shaker cup which has about 4 different conponents to it. I guess im feeling really over whelmed (i couldnt even get the lid off the darn cup) I was also told that I needed Whey Protien Isolate he gave me whey protien consentrate. will this protien thing need to be taken for the rest of my life because it's pretty expensive stuff does any one have any thoughts.Id sure apperciate it thanks

It's not a lifetime deal, no. You will need protein powder supplements until you are able to meet your protein goals with the food you eat. There are some pretty good recipies out there, so play around with the samples until you find one that works for you. Good Luck.

The protein drinks are temporary. Some people use them for several months, and some people barely use them at all because their body doesn't like them. Plan on using them for at least 4 weeks until your meal plan has enough variety to get the protein you need in and enough water as well.

You are on the right track! It can be overwhelming when it comes to protein, "Should I use powder, premixed, and later protein bars???" I found that I don't really like powdered protein, it is a texture thing. I did much better with premixed protein (really like Premier, which has 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar, and 4 grams of carbs) and keep some stocked in my fridge. I also keep protein bars on hand (purse and car) for emergencies or when I am out so I have something that I have control over when doing errands that may run long. A year out I try to make a protein rich soup once a week for lunches and as a snack option. It does get better as you go along!
