I don't know if I have the words to eloquently describe this amazing experience that I have had with Dr. Ortiz and the OCC. I had my sleeve done on Thursday morning with no complications or regrets. On Friday morning I was back in my AMAZING bed at the Marriott, literally being waited on hand and foot. Yessica at the Marriott would call my room to make sure everything was alright and checked to make sure I was comfortable. I have had the good fortune of traveling around this beautiful world of ours and have stayed at numerous "luxury" hotels; however, this Marriott is far and away one of the best I have ever been at. On Saturday I went back to OCC for the barium test, and passed with flying colors ( in this case the color was that delicious pink drink) and Dr. Martinez removed my drain. The second that the drain was removed, I felt like it did prior to the beginning of my journey. No pain, moving around freely and feeling phenomenal. For anyone who is apprehensive of coming to TJ for this life altering change, as I was, please know that in my opinion you will not find better quality or care.

If for whatever reason my insurance company does not cover my surgery.... and I pray that it does I will be wanting to know everything about your Dr. and his team. This is going to happen one way or another. Thank you for your post. When I first heard about the sleeve earlier this year my plan was to go to Mexico. It is nice to know of someone who is know is real and can guide me, because they have been there. I am taking notes. This is all so exciting. My daughter said if I have to go to Mexico, I was not going to leave her home : ) So I would have someone to spend time in that beautiful hotel.
Was the hotel stay included in the package? Congratulations!!!

I second this post!! I had my surgery at OCC in April 2012 and I can't say enough about the entire experience!! Exceptional care!!!!

Best decision I have ever made!! 140 lbs down and 17 weeks pregnant with my first child! Glad that you had a great experience! Dr. Oritz and the staff at OCC are amazing!!!

Ms. Haye. First and foremost I am more than willing to help and answer any questions you have about my journey with Dr. Ortiz and the entire staff at OCC. Yes, the deluxe accommodations at the Marriott are included in the total package. I did extensive research, almost to the point of obsession about the whole process. There are weight/ doctor brokers who will tell you everything you want to hear, however the patient coordinators, Lori in my case, are former patients of Dr. Ortiz. Thanks soooo much for this post Chris. I'm scheduled for surgery at th OCC Nov 11, so it's great to know you had such a good experience! Did you go alone or take a companion? I may end up going along due to last minute family circumstances, so i'm a bit nervous.

So glad you had such a wonderful experience!!

I had my surgery in TJ just over 2 weeks ago, and have to say I received excellent care!! Much better than I have ever received in the US. My surgeon came by the hotel several times to check on me to make sure I was doing well, and also checked on me right before I left to come back across the border to the US. I would not hesitate to allow Dr Kelly to work on my child if it were needed.

Lori is great!! She had her revision surgery the same day as me.... We have become great friends as well... and you are right.. there are a lot of brokers out there that work for various Dr's. Dr. Ortiz has two coordinators, Carolyn and Lori and both are former patients. Carolyn has a band and Lori had a band but revised to the sleeve in April 2012.

Like yourself.. I was borderline obsessed with research and ALWAYS came back to Dr. Ortiz and OCC. I researched for YEARS before finally making the decision to change my life... Hands down.... the best money that I have ever spent!!

Yes, all the meals (liquid) and hotel and transportation from the hotel to airport and hospital are all included. It is an all inclusive trip - kind of like club med for health conscious and motivated people.

Question for those of you that went to the OCC. I'm scheduled for surgery in 1 week! I'm nervous but excited. How much time did you actually spend at the hotel, or is it pretty much back and forth to the hospital? I'm probably going to end up going alone due to some last minute family circumstances, so I'm just curious what to expect when I get there. How much 'free' time did you have? Were you able to relax at the hotel or were you basically sleeping and walking? Due to available flight times, I'm having to stay an extra day, I don't think it's a problem, but I'm not really sure. I'm scheduled to come in Sunday the 10th, surgery the 11th, leaving the 15th? Do you think this will be a problem?
