Default 4 months post-op. So happy with my results so far!

Surgery date 6/4/2013, I started out at 318 lbs. Now, 10/29, almost 5 months, I am down 106 lbs. and feeling amazing. Food is my main problem however. I need som e variety. I seem to only eat salads, string cheese, and beef jerky. I am a mother of a 2 year old, and find myself cooking for her, then my husband, and then I snack on stick cheese or celery sticks. I am fearful of eating anything other than protein and no carb foods. Dietician says I'm on the right path. No sugars, even natural found sugar, like fruit. I am getting really bored with the foods I have been eating though. Any quick easy ideas for high protein snacks would be helpful at this point. I have 37 lbs to go to get to goal weight. Then onto maintenance. The sleeve is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I am 22 days pre-op, but I have found a lot of interesting recipes from a blog called the World According to Eggface. She did the gastric bypass several years ago and is in the maintenance phase, but she has done the low carb high protein thing. She does eat fruit though.

Will look into that for sure. Speaking of eggs, I hate them now. They used to be one of my faves. The sleeve really changes the way you feel about food.

Wait a minute.... all you are eating are salads, string cheese and beef jerky? Really? And a dietitian thinks this is great? Ok, I understand the whole egg thing. I was able to eat them between my 2nd and 3rd month but now, after my 3rd month, they make me nauseous. But you should be eating more normally by now. What about chicken? What about fish? ( yeah, I should talk, I brought fish right back up the last time I ate it.) What about other vegetables? Yes, your weight loss is amazing but nutritionally you are starving yourself. You don't really need more high protein snacks as much as you need more food choices. I am now past my 3rd month and 77 lbs down. I have added baked chicken and some steak ( the edge of a ribeye ) lean deli turkey and some meatloaf. I eat green beans cooked soft, cooked carrots, sugar free apple sauce, yogurt - low fat, soups with well cooked vegetables in them. You really need to expand what you eat every day so you don't find yourself making three different meals. I would personally get another dietitian. Do you take vitamin, calcium and Vitamin B supplements? These are all essential for anyone who has a sleeve. You asked, so I told you my opinion and what my surgeon and the dietitians in his office recommend. Good Luck to you.

I am able to eat beef, chicken and fish. I just don't eat them more than once, twice a week. I tend to eat things that don't make me feel sick. My dietician is not aware of al. The food choices. She just knows that I steer clear of carbs and sugars. Low fat yogurt is a no no for her too. Only Greek unflavored is on her list. I eat plenty of veggies too. My life is busy working full time. My excuse is that I tend to eat things that are handy.

I am a busy working mother too. I do well by following directions. I feel if I can get a meal list from my dietitian I can plan my meals and have handy food options when I am on the go. I think a lot of it will be pre-planning. Maybe use your day off from work, grocery shop and pre-package your meals in the fridge. That way when you are in a hurry you can just grab a meal and still meet your health needs.
