Default Day 4 post op...what to eat and when?

Hey all...just curious as I know all Dr. Are different, but what is a timeline for stages? Right now I have protein shakes, jello, and Popsicles. I don't see my dr. Until the 31st. Do I have to be like this the whole time? I saw some peeps started stage 2 soft foods at 9 days? Anything else I can have and think it's okay to jump to phase 2 before the 31st? Oh yeah, I also had chick noodle soup or the broth of it. Hated to waste those noodles and bits of chicken. We're so good. Thanks all..

I just had my sleeve on Tuesday, and I can't imgagine eating anything, I can barely get get down all my liquids n a whole day,, yesterday I started at 6am, and finished at 8p, because I didn't wan't a reflux problem, but remember your body has to heal, inside out so I would go slow. My nurse spent a half hour speaking with me upon my discharge.. maybe double check with your doctor office. good luck.

I am on that stage for the 2 weeks after surgery. I'm 11 days out and still only get protein shakes, along with all the liquids, (SF Jello, SF Popsicles, broth, etc.)
    I start mushy foods Monday.

Each doctor has different protocol. You need to check with your doctor or nutritionist.

Call your surgeon's office and get guidance. You don't want to get direction on your timeline on this forum because doctors are different. You alway want to go by your surgeon's instructions. Call if you're not going to see him/her until the 31st. Or calll your NUT

You need to do what you think you can do.

There is no set in stone guideline for what to eat and when. I tried to eat real solid food early on and my body told me to stop. I didn't have any set backs, just discomfort. Your body is different than mine and you'll do what it tells you to do. One of the guys who had his surgery when I did was actually eating solid food on day three and had zero problems. He kept in touch with me over the next year and claimed he didn't have any problems what so ever.

I lived on lentils and cottage cheese for the first two months and progressed from there. I never did just stay on liquids and shakes. However, it was almost three and a half months before I was eating normally. And by normal, I mean go to a restaurant and order your appetizer. I say appetizer because to this day...one year later...that's all I can eat. LOL.

So please, please, please....don't get caught up in what you should or shouldn't do. It should be about what you can and can't do. Your body will let you know and there's no reason why you shouldn't have real food if your sleeve can take it.

I learned early on that the sleeve is actually very hearty and the further out you get...the stronger it gets. You won't be able to hurt it.

    Good Luck

My doc said it's not uncommon for Sleeve patients to need to stay on very soft/puree for up to 4-6 weeks sometimes. I had a lot of generic sleeve/roux en-y info in my info packets because my facility does three different wls's So I was concerned because I still can't do anything rougher than baby food first foods. He said not to worry. Because the sleeve is so small and long it has a larger area of swelling and can take awhile to heal enough to handle solid foods. He said just to be careful and take it as my body dictates just being sure I get the protein and vitamins in as recommended.
