    Default Coffee causing GI issues....

Today is the second day in a row I have experienced some gastrointestinal issues. I told my brother-in-law that only only thing in common I have consumed is decaf coffee, but how could that possibly lead to my "issues". My brother-in-law is also my assistant at work and he just loves to look up things, so while I was in the bathroom he did just that. He found this Why does coffee make you go to the bathroom. Basically, coffee regardless of being decaffeinated or not can have this effect. So, needless to say I will no longer be consuming decaf coffee.

Has anyone else experienced this or am I a weirdo with a beardo?

I'm not a coffee drinker but my NUT doesn't allow coffee of any tyoe before 8 weeks. Maybe give your body more time to heal and try coffee again?

Like ACE said it is a laxative. That's why people joke about them getting things moving in the morning with their coffee and cigarettes as both have laxative properties. Sugar fee chocolate is also a huge laxative way more than the coffee and cigs so be careful!

I'm not even much of a coffee drinker, just thought it was a bit chilly out in the morning and something warm might feel good. NOPE, lol, not good at all. I will just do without! =)

Oh I learned my lesson with sugar free chocolate a long time ago and will never go back there, haha! I always assumed (obviously incorrectly) that it was the amount of caffeine in coffee that had the laxative effect. I feel kind of dumb now, lol. I was never one for coffee anyway unless it was in the form of a frappuccino from Starbucks, lol. I will just move onto different things like hot decaf tea or diet hot apple cider!

before being sleeved I drank so much coffee! Caffeine , NOT decaf but I drank to the tune of 32 oz in the am and 32 oz in the pm. So needless to say when I had surgery I had the worst headache EVER! I started drinking coffee ( decaf) after about a week. I guess that is why I am not having to drink so much prune juice now! But for me it just kind of keeps things moving vs what you are going through with it. Now of course I drink about 6 oz a day.

I was told no coffee or tea for 2 months because of the acid. I was allowed caffeine in Crystal light or other sf "energy drink." First time I had coffee it didn't sit well but it was a little strong but its been fine since then. Also, they told me no more than 16 oz a day of coffee. (Every surgeon seems to have different rules though.) Good luck.

Before surgery, coffee did the complete opposite for me. Major constipation.....I don't think all of the diet dew helped either. I read up on it as well & certain people it effects differently. I would say if you gave it up beforehand, don't go back. Think of how "clean" your body will be without all of the "extras" that we can actually live without. Don't get me wrong, I miss my coffee w/cream! I have treated myself to sugarfree hot cocoa, but very seldom. It does have some caffenine but not a ton. Good luck to you!

I love coffee, hot or iced. I have only drank one cup every morning for most of my adult life, and maybe two cups on the weekends with my husband. I am a creamer fanatic so it's more about the creamer than the coffee I think but I also love coffee flavored ice cream. I had my first cup of decaf on Sunday morning and it sat fine. I bought some decaf for my keurig and I have had a cup every morning this week. It helps me get my pills down. I haven't had any issues myself but we all know everything can be different for another person.

Coffee is the one concern that I have. I go to Dunkin Donuts every morning for med. french vanilla with cream and 2 sugars. I am hoping that I don't have to give it up forever. Of course if I have too........

LOL, I feel like such a weak sister, a delicate flower, right now! It'll be a long time before I try it again...I was miserable all day long yesterday. I'm right there with you, though, Lori. To me it is all about the flavoring...the creamer and whatnot. Ah well....that's how the cookie crumbled for me! =P
