    Default Nervousness is setting in!!!

I am a few days away from my pre-surgical appointment. I am planning to start my pre-op diet a few days after that (two weeks pre-op as suggested by dr). My question is.......is it normal to want to have a "last meal" of everything before I start said pre-op diet. I feel like I want to have my "last" pizza, my "last" hamburger, My "last" steak dinner......on and on. Did anyone else experience this "last meal" phenomenon. I know I will be able to enjoy these things again down the road (way down) but can not help thinking I need to now. Please let me know if this is normal and how I can stop myself. I do not want to gain weight before surgery.

I think we all have had the "last dinner" phenomenon. The thing to remember is that it really ISNT the last of anythying. True some of us do turn away from many of the bad stuff for life but there will come a day when it will be your choice if you want to have a slice of pizza. This procedure is restrictive in the amount you can eat more then in what you can eat. The first four months is the hardest but as it progressess you have more choices. Good luck and Godspeed on your journey.

I'm going through that now. I have surgery Oct 1, and start my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. I swear I've been like an eating machine the last few days...but I really know better. The day will come when these foods can be back into our diet in small amounts. But that's a long way off, so we have to be 100% now...My doctor says "no 90%, no 97%, you have to be 100%" on pre and post op diets. So enjoy it now.

my last week before starting pre-op diet Hubby and I went to all my favorite restaurants to have all my favorite meals. Funny thing though at 3 1/2 months out I can have most of my favorite foods just in smaller portions. The biggest difference is not having salad and bread when going out to eat, I miss that but I don't want to fill up on salad and carbs so I always ask for my salad to be wrapped and I take it home to my daughter. So try not to think of it as your last meals because you will be able to have them again some day, Good Luck to You!

Thank you all, that has made me feel much better. I have had a few "last" meals and funny thing is....I could not really enjoy them and felt horrible afterwards. (guessing guilt). I was hoping it was not a sign that I am not ready for this journey. I can not wait to get it started!!! Good luck to all of you as well. and thank you for being in this group. It is nice to have people to talk to who have gone through the various stages and emotions of this sometimes overwhelming journey

It's all true...what everyone is saying. I have a few French fries...a nibble of someone's dessert, a couple of bites of pizza. But mostly I keep it to really healthy foods because it's just easier these days. It's easy to stop when u can't fit a while lot in and you need to concentrate on protein. Last meals? Haha...I did that for almost a year straight until I went thru with the surgery..

yep its normal..... I just had to have benihana before i started this journey.... I knew it would be a while before I would be able to enjoy it again so i had to have it one last time. And when I do eat it again somewhere down the road, I doubt ill enjoy it as much as i did when I ate it before surgery.
