    Default Questions for the Aussies

Hi! I'm making a list because I want to get a head start on buying some of the things I need post-op. Being American, I am not familiar with the brands or what is best such as multivitamins, gas relief, protein powders and something for upset stomachs. I just want to be prepared since I will be in Sydney for two weeks post op. Do you have nexium here and do you need a script for it or B12? Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated. I will ask the pharmacist, but I would really like to know what experienced sleevers are taking so I can compare.

Hi Jewelz -- you'll find plenty of resources in Sydney.
Protein powders are widely available. The docs tend to recommend Optifast, because they bought a lot of doctors dinner in the 90s. I used Almased, which I ordered online. GNC and health food shops are good places to look. Where are you staying in Sydney?
I use B12 in a brand easily available at Chemists and supermarkets. You might need chewables straight after surgery though. I bought these and chewable gummy vitamins online from the states. The chewable vitamins my nutritionist sold me (Bariatric Advantage) were inedible for me.
    I will write more soon.
    Warm wishes,
    Nel

Thank you, Nel! I didn't realize you could order things like that from the US. I assumed customs would be tough on that because they are on food..lol. I got done for a bag of red beans from a care package once so I learned my lesson.
I haven't booked a hotel yet for November. I am waiting for my Dr's office to get back to me on some apartments that Mater has built for patients who fly in from remote areas. Not sure if they are ready yet though as they are brand new. We are flying over on Oct 15 for my first Dr visit and some other appts. We have booked in at Best Western Twin Towers on Pacific HWY for 5 days. We are going to scope out some of the hotels around Mater during our stay to see what's best for post op in case the apartments aren't an option.
I guess I'm getting ahead of myself and should wait until I talk to the Nutritionist and see what they have to offer.
    Thanks for replying! Denise
