Hi everyone! My name is Sarah. I'm a 32 year old mom to two young girls (ages 3 and 5). I'm a nurse and I'm overweight. I started the process to get approved for a lap band back in 2011, but was stricken with bilateral pulmonary emboli (blood clots in my lungs) and had to put the surgery on hold. After that, the surgeon said he couldn't risk operating on me because I was diagnosed with a gene mutation that causes my blood to clot abnormally. I'm on blood thinners for life.

Fast forward to now, and I've done 6 months of Weight Watchers with no success. I found a surgeon where I work who is ok with operating on me. I'm planning to do the sleeve. I had my first appt on Thursday and I have to complete 6 months of diet and exercise (the typical physician supervised program). I have my first appt with my PCP for this this upcoming week. I will be having a sleep study done soon as well.

Anyway, I am very excited about my journey, and I"m looking forward to reading everyone's stories! Thank you!

Glad you have found a surgeon who will do the sleeve but may I suggest you start the necessary changes straight away, like giving up soda, junk food, alcohol, cut back on caffeine etc, then start tracking everything you eat and drink. I use myfitnesspal which is a free app or you can use on PC too. I reduced from 1200+ calories a day down to 800 over time, and increased protein, reduced carbs and sugar...all months before the op, gives you a better chance of an easier process, still hard but doable and I have had awesome results so far, good luck.

Thank you! Yes, my surgeons office has suggested that I start using MFP (which I already have an account with) to track and watch my calories and keep track of exercise.
