Default So uhhh... What's under the gown?

Remember, people, I've never had a single surgery in my entire life. The last time I was in the hospital was when I was spat from the loins of my mother. (Great visual right? Haha.) So my question is.. Does everything come off under the gown when you're getting prepped for surgery... Like EVERRRRYthing?? How much of me will be "exposed"? Out of all the worries that I could be having about going under, the biggest one I have right now is the fear of a nip slip. Ridiculous, I know, but these are the things that I think about in my weird little head. I just want to know that I'll be able to walk away from my procedure knowing that I'll still be able to look my surgeon and his nursing staff in their eyes. Lol. Input is appreciated. Thanks!!

P.S. Only 6 sleeps left until surgery!!

Best not to think about it. You will be totally exposed at some point, most likely. They will try to cover the areas they are not working in. The drs and nurses are not creepers...lol. But if you think about it too much, it can be bothersome. Plus, they've seen it all. From the good to the bad. 6 days will fly by in a minute. Think about something else..

Everything comes off! I think they are all so used to seeing it in the hospital all the time it doesn't even phase them! Don't worry about it- you'll be asleep anyhow! Lol. Good luck!

Not only are you NAKED under there , but the ER cameras take pictures. I say my junk on a few websites!!! At first I was really upset and wanted to sue, but then so many women started LIKE-ing the pictures, I was flattered.

You are gonna be naked!! No nip slip. they open in the back so you might show a bit of crack...lol They don't mind, gives them something to talk about on their break. Be a nice patient and make lunch time fun. I've had lots of surgeries and I have no shame now. All the area hospital staff could recognize me naked.

The sleeve was my first surgery too. All I was allowed to wear was a gown, a shower cap type paper hat and hospital socks nothing underneath, it was terrible but I got over it. It just sucks when they make you do the walks around the floor and everythings on the loose and you feel like everyone is watching.

ummm....complete nakedness under the gown! And, if they put you on a catheter after surgery (happened to me), you will wake up with a tube come out of your vajine (i know sp)! So...don't even think about it. They have truly seen it all! I didn't get to wear an underwear until day 2 post op when the nurse removed my cath.

Yes, everything vcomes off but if you need to get up just request another gown and put it on the reverse of the first one...nothing will show that way. And as much as you think eveeryone is watching they aren't. It just feels that way. The blankets are warmed ususally since it is pretty cold in pre op...Good Luck on the surgery!!

Also, I'm not sure if all surgeons do this, but I understand that I was tilted upward to about 60 degrees as it helps them get better access to your stomach because there are other organs (e.g. liver) in the way and they don't want gravity pushing them down onto your stomach. That means my boobs would have been sagging as well as exposed! I had paper knickers on under my gown when I went into surgery, and none in recovery - so I guess that answers that question. But I was catheterised as well, so obviously someone was fiddling around down south at the end of surgery before I woke up. Forget dignity -it's surgery - they do it every day.

I am still not happy that I shaved myself into a heart for the missus though. THAT was a little embarrassing.

I worried about the same thing. But I was never exposed at all while awake. I completely maintained my dignity. After I was in my room, I changed into my own clothes.
