    Default Now or Later? Work...HELP!

I will try to make my situation make sense. I was so excited to book my surgery, (Aug 22nd) but had to cancel when I realized it was the same day my boys start school! That was the only good week for me to go, now this is my dilemma:

I'm on a special assignment at work till October. I could take the time off, but it will look better if I don't.

In October, I will get furloughed for a couple of months and would have plenty of time to recover if I had the surgery then.

Buuuuut....There is a possibility I will get a new assignment that will start in October and I will NOT be able to take off.

I'm considering same day surgery (in Mexico), then going home 3 days post op, getting my boys to school and returning to work after being out only 6 days. Is this a horrible idea? I'm worried that if I take my chances and wait till Oct, I will be devastated if I don't get to have it. I want it bad!

I'm healthy in every other way than my weight. I think I'm tough when it comes to pain. When it comes down to it, there isn't anything my job can do (Fed Govt), but I'm moving up and am in very good graces right now and would like to keep it that way.

Oh, and I am moving mid Sept. Oh, and I'm a single mom! What would you do? If you had to push through and work, could you?

ETA: I am currently doing course development, so I'm sitting at a desk all day with the option to get up when I want.

I had sort of a similar situation. I booked surgery after asking if anything was going on during those two weeks and was told no. Now there is a major launch happening and I feel so guilty for being off. But, if I don't have it now there is a chance I could be laid off in my industry at anytime so then I may not ever be able to have it. It's my health and my boss is being a little crappy about it but I'm going for it. There is never a "good time". Jobs come and go my health is forever but your situation is a little different.

Wow, that's hard. If you have the funds and can afford to do it without huge issues, I would do it. That's just me because I'm tired of waiting. Good luck lady on your choice!!

I think I could have worked if I'd had too. I had a couple of days when I HAD to take a nap, but most days I am fine. I worked out twice today and I am fine.

With the moving in September, I would wait. You shouldn't be lifting much until at least 4 - 6 weeks. Can you schedule the surgery for the first of October?
Returning to work after only 6 days would be tough

Just because of the upcoming move alone, I say wait until October. Moves are very stressful and physically demanding ... Not a good idea so soon after major surgery

I had my surgery on a Wednesday & was back to work the following Tuesday. I have a desk job so it wasn't a big deal. Good luck to you. Hope everything works out!

I felt great 4 days after, just needed a little rest every once in a while the first two weeks. I went to the park @ week 2 and was tired from being in the sun, but managed very well. Drink lots and if you can get to walking a good amount now before surgery I think that helps too. I was walking a mile and a half at least twice a day and I think that helped my stamina at the onset.
