48 hrs pre-op?!?!?!?

I'm a little concerned...I am 48 hours from my surgery and saw my surgeon on Friday but he didnt give me any pre-op rules, regs, diets, nothing! I have read on here almost everyone was on a pre-op diet of some kind and my Dr isn't requireing anything! I wonder if I should go on a liquid diet or something on my own before the surgery. I have been to all my Nut appts and have changed my eating habits over the last 7 months but I still expected something! Did any of you have to drink the yucky stuff before surgery...not having me do that either...wondering if I'm missing an important step or if i should just roll with it?!? Please advise...

I would call your surgeon's office to give yourself complete peace of mind. And if necessary I would call his "non-emergency service". I was on a two week full liquid/high protein diet. That is my surgeon's requirement for each of his patients.

My surgeon only required that I eat low carb the week before surgery. He feels that one has a set amount that they will lose wether before surgery or after. He didn't believe in making me lose weight before surgery because if diets were easy, I wouldn't be there for a surgical procedure! He did want me to focus on nutrition,eating low fat proteins and lots of veggies and fruit. For the 6 months of appointments that I had to go to before surgery, they focused on nutrition and how to eat properly.
You said you have already started to eat better so I believe that was the goal he wanted for you.

The purpose of the two week liquid diet isn't to lose weight so much as it is to reduce the size of the liver which makes the surgery easier and lower risk. I would definitely go on a full liquid diet before you have your operation. Best of luck with your surgery. I think you will love the sleeved side.

That does make sense. Those were the goals he set for me with the Nut. Portion size, better choices, more protien, and to start adding protien shakes and supplements in daily. So I guess you may be right...I was getting freaked out because almost everyone seemed to say they had this horrible pre-op diet...but I guess mine started 7 months ago acutally...lol! Thanks for helping me put things in prespective.

Its only two days...I'd do liquids, too if I were you. It wouldn't hurt - only help. I only was required a 3 day liquid diet. GOOD LUCK!!

Clear liquids 48hrs out. Bottle of Magnesium Citrate the night before. My surgery is Tuesday

I was on a 1200 calorie diet for 2 weeks and do protein shakes twice a day. I was also to start clear liquids two days prior to surgery. That's it.

I am on a 10 day liquid diet. Anything you can suck through a straw that CAME that way. I am not allowed to blend things to make them liquid lol. Good luck

The day before surgery I could only have clear liquids and had to drink 10 oz of Citrate of Magnesium, and nothing after midnight. I would call him (his service can forward a message) and ask what his requirements are. Speaking as an RN, I've seen many patient's cases be cancelled because they are not prepped correctly.
