I think people just need to realise because your doctor has told you something... doesn't mean its gospel! and in that I am saying still listen to your doctor and surgeon but doesn't mean that they are the only one that's right. I had my first drink at 4 weeks and guess what.. didn't die!!! I also have carbonation every now and then... Im still rapidly losing, if you are curious, try it. If it works with your body, great.. if it doesn't... well you will know. everyones different. Maybe then you will find shit im putting on weight, ahh this is why and change it. This is such a learning curve and is individual to each person. I rarely comment on here anymore due to negative people, its a bit sad. Good luck girl hope the margarita works for you x

Went to a viewing of the WLS movie, 'All Of Me' this past Saturday. First support group to get to see it, BTW!!! Highly recommend it, very enlightening!! Anyway, one of the drinks offered, in addition to decaf coffee and iced tea was margarita flavored Crystal Lite. Go figure, had no idea something like this existed. I don't like them so I didn't even try it, but there were several in my group that had three or four cups of the stuff and were on a hunt for it yesterday in the DFW area!!!

I am struggling with this one. I can give up the food but not sure about the alcohol. I do like to feel a bit Squiffy on a Friday night after work. Please let us know how you get on. I met a guy in Spain who has had this done and he still has alcohol once a week and he is fine. he has lost 12 stones and drinks sensibly.

Some doctors advise giving up alcohol for an extended period because of concern about addiction switching. There is an increased risk of developing an alcohol addiction - but admittedly the risks are still relatively low. Other doctors who advise super low carbs will also say no alcohol because it has sugars in it.

My doc didn't give any specific advice about alcohol and I had my first drink (some wine at a ball) at about 5 weeks. Didn't have much and it felt a bit uncomfortable. Since then I have alcohol about as often as I ever did, which might mean not drinking at all for three or four weeks and then another week I might drink three times. It usually depends on what socialising I'm doing as I don't drink at home unless we have friends over for dinner.

I generally drink less at each sitting than I used to, same as I drink less fluids than I used to in general, particularly if I'm eating. I do get tipsy faster (like many others).

Anyway, I think it's something that individuals can keep an eye on themselves. If you do find yourself drinking or craving drinking often, be careful and don't let it creep up without keeping an eye on it. If you need help with it get it. Otherwise, like everything else, enjoy in moderation and keep in mind your overall calorie intake in general.

11 months in - I went out for dinner on Saturday night with friends. I had a double vodka and orange juice in the bar when we first arrived. I then had a small glass of wine which lasted me throughout the meal as I sipped small amounts at the beginning, end, and between courses. Was no big deal and enjoyed the social aspect as well as the relaxation.

My doctor says not to drink for two months. I plan on having an occasional glass of wine or a vodka with water and lime. Probably won't do a margarita just because I can barely stomach them now, but I do plan on living my life in moderation. The only thing my surgeon has in his book is that is forever is carbonated drinks so no champagne for me which is the only thing I am "giving up".

My dr said 6 weeks. Even at 10 months out 2 good drinks have me at a good buzz. I am not going to tell you not to drink. You know about the empty calories. To be honest on the weekend id rather skip desert an have a drink with my hubby or the family. Just always be mindful of what you consume whether food or liquid it will all impact your weight loss. I heard and read all the studies on cross addictions I'm a little iffy on that one. But again that's just me.
