    Default carbonated drinks??

Im 9 weeks out from surgery.

My doctor said if I want a Dr. Pepper or any carbonated drink I can only have a few sips but then I read somewhere online it says no carbonated drinks for the first month after and then its fine. What about y'all? What did your doctor say or suggest?

Lots of controversy over this topic! You will get all kinds of views and different docs have different views. I was addicted to diet soda prior to surgery. Since surgery, I have only had a few sips on two different occasions. Honestly, I am glad to be rid of it, not only because MOST docs say no carbonation but because whether sleeved or not, it is just not good for your body.

I generally follow my doctor's advise and if he says a few sips, then a few sips is fine. I didn't drink soda before surgery, and I haven't afterwards. I do have club soda at least 2-3 times per week (0 cals and 0 bad for you things in it) and I tolerate it fine.

I had given up soda when I was on the weight watchers program a few years ago so I didn't have that to worry about. However I have had a few sips of beer in the last month or so and it has not set well with me. Just feels "heavy" in my stomach.

    Start weight: 286 (8/28/12)
    Pre-op weight: 272 (10/22/12)
Goal to weigh what my drivers license says: 225 (3/9/13)
    First goal weight: 199 (7/20/13)
    Second goal weight: 186 - 100 lbs lost ( )
    Third goal weight: 175 ( )
    Fourth goal weight: 150 ( )
Final goal weight: remains to be seen

My doctor said no soda. I did have a sip or two a couple weeks ago just to try and it tasted very salty! I don't like the taste anymore, I did have a beer on Saturday and it tasted JUST fine!

My doc says no carbonated drinks ever again. I had a couple sips of root beer a couple weeks ago. It went fine, but I will follow orders. Water works fine for me.

    Hi:
I'm a recovering diet soda addict. I quit 3 weeks prior to surgery on the pre-op diet. My doc recommends never going back to carbonated beverages. The carbonation is bad for our tiny tummies and there's all sorts of info out there on how bad diet soda is. As for me - I'm happy to be rid of it. Now I drink water or PowerAde Zero or Crystal lite or decaf tea. I'm a very happy camper & saving $$ not making the soda runs. Hugs, Roberta

My doc also says no carbonation. I'm a bit of a rebel tho and tried a sip of my much missed Diet Coke. I gotta tell you. It tasted nasty.

I have no desire to try another.

If you read this board and its different topics, you will find a wide range of ideas and thoughts. Many doctors do things quite differently. An example, most people on here went through a 2 week liquid diet pre op, just before surgery. Doctor's orders. I, on the other hand, did not have to do this. My doctor says no to ANY carbonated drinks at all. Your's says some is ok. I'd just do what YOUR particular doctor says. Who knows who is really right and/or wrong? So far I've been good regarding carbonated drinks. May I slip sometime in the future? Hopefully not. However, I am human and anything is possible. If I do, I do. I won't freak out and scream the sky is falling. You get back on the horse and keep riding.

Its the overall lifestyle change which matters. Not one or two meals/drinks which matter.

My doc said no carbonated drinks and inferred forever! I don't miss or want soda but occassionally I like flavored seltzer. I asked what would happen if I drank some and they said it will hurt (???) So, I will wait a bit longer (it's only been a week and a half since surgery), but eventually, I will take a small sip or two and see what happens!
