Cool Questions about recent and experiences sleevers

I'm considering have the GS and wanted to talk to those who have had it a while, and those who have just had the surgery. Have you had problems? Is it a very drastic change for you and are you happy with your decision? Also, is the weight loss as you expected it to be?

I've thought about banding, but after researching that, I may go with the sleeve.

I had my sleeve done 6 weeks ago and have had no problems. The biggest difference is how I now look at food. I think more of I must now eat to get nourishment for my body rather than eating and stuffing myself to overload. I am now eating to live rather than living to eat. It is a waaay different way now. But the result are showing and I am determined to get to my goal and stay there.
As for after effects...I have never had heartburn, nausea, etc prior to surgery and don't have any now. Everyone has different tolerances to pain etc. For me the only "pain" that I had was some gas pains in my shoulder area immediately following surgery which subsided in a couple of days and some discomfort in the stomach area due to all those muscles being pushed around by the instruments. Again, everyone is different. If you have a high tolerance for pain....like me...then it just wasn't that bad. The hard part was getting used to eating very small portions and not overeating. In this instance my "eyes" needed to catch up to my brain and adjust accordingly. Good luck.

This was the best thing I ever did for myself!!!

I had the Lap-band first don't ever want to go there again from 2003 til 2006 ok but in 2007 something so wrong happened it slipped but I did lose 100 pds. But as soon as it was removed I regained every pd. So in 2010 I started researching the sleeve and had it done May 25,2011 (Had to pay cash) the start of my new life, it has been a great change. I'm so happy I had it done. No pain with surgery but everyone is different. The only thing is one time I have serious reflux but thats fine if thats all. I look forward to my new life and losing this weight for a better life!!! Best of luck with what ever you decide.

just 2 wks post op here. I wouldn't change a thing. I went to MX with my daughter & we had it together. I will admit that it was a bit intimidating but really, not bad surgery. Went to sleep & 6 hrs later I woke up to a new life. I'll never regret or look back!

I had the procedure two months ago. All I can say is that I am absolutely, positively amazed
    with the results.

The choice of sleeve versus band is reallly about how far you want to go and also how fast.

With the sleeve the changes are also permanent. I definitely like that ALOT!

The change has been very, very drastic ....
And everyone of the changes is for the better... I've lost about 80 lbs, four pant sizes
and my energy level is off the charts.

So bottom line.... It's the best choice I have ever made.

Just got home from TJ. Dr. Almanza & his staff are amazing. You can pay more elsewhere, however, you will not receive better care or a more professional, skilled surgeon. I am feeling amazingly wonderful. Sutures are beginning to itch and an occasional burp still slips out. My experience was fantastic, I anxiously await a thinner healthier me!

Thanks so much LeslieF. Your post is very encouraging! I'm still awaiting insurance approval (today or Monday hopefully) and on to the next phase. Did you have to do a two week liquid protein diet pre-op?

Good luck to you! Yes, I did a three week (more like 2.5 week) liquid protein diet. It was three shakes a day plus one high protein meal. For me that meal was usually (sliced turkey, chicken breast, tuna or salmon (canned or fresh cooked) on top of a tossed salad with some lemon juice and a smidgen of oil and some salt and pepper. I lost 10lbs doing this. Plus I drank lots of sugarless ice tea. I was surprised how much those shakes filled me up. Good luck !

This was the best thing I ever did for myself!!!
