Default Unflavored protein supplement (unjury) - Inexpensive Alternative?

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking for an inexpensive unflavored protein supplement that I can add to water, tea, oatmeal, soup, etc. Any suggestions or experiences? THANK YOU!

The less expensive, the worse it will taste. Stick with UNJURY. Its worth it. I use it twice a day. Either unflavored, vanilla or the chocolate. You may feel it is expensive BUT, IF YOU ARE LIKE THE REST OF US, IT IS LESS THAN WHAT YOU WERE PAYING FOR FOOD BEFORE YOUR SURGERY.

I'm here to tell you that I've tried using IsoPure Unflavored protein (it was cheaper for a large container) and it has a taste. I could barely stomach using the entire 5lb container. The IsoPure was so gross that I happily spent the extra money and went back to Unjury!

I'm almost 7 mos post-op and when I saw the dietician last she suggested that I try to work my way down to only needing 1 scoop of powder per day. Now I eat the majority of my protein and only use the Unjury when I don't have "real" protein. That keeps the cost down A LOT!!

You can put the Unjury in a lot of things:

foods-oatmeal, reg yogurt (if you don't like greek), pudding, soups
drinks-coffee, tea, water with flavorings(I use the dasani, mio and crystal light liquid drops

When I was about where you were, I was drinking most of my protein with water and flavorings, or in beef/ckn broth.

I like Unjury, but I also find that the Nectar brand is much more available and sometimes goes on sale. It has no taste also. My favorite mix in is with diet Hawaiian Punch.

This discussion has been so helpful in answering questions that I had about different protein powders. I'm gearing up for surgery and I would like to find things I like before I need them.

I still haven't gotten my pre-op / post-op instructions, but I'm curious. On the first week when you're on clear liquids do you add a protein supplement? Broth, jello, popsicles and crystal light type water additives don't have any nutritional value. I know once I get to full liquids I can use the protein shakes, but I was curious about the first few days after surgery.

Started this journey on 7/18/2013 @ 204.8 with 14 day pre-op liquid diet
Day of surgery 8/1/2013, fully clothed on Dr. Alvarez's scale @ 195

You can definitely add unflavored protein to any thing. Just be sure not to overheat--gets lumpy.

I just put some unflavored unjury in my yogurt and I couldn't really taste it. I think I will be buying a tub of that. (the one I had was just a sample pack)

As for the first week I was told I will be drinking Isopure RTD for three day's along with any other clear liquid. after 3 days viatmins, Isopure RTD, Unjury chicken soup and clear liquids, After the first week it will be all other protien drinks then mushy foods (if I can) But Please ask your doctor what you should be eatting and when.

FYI-don't count on drinking ANYTHING in particular that someone told you you will be drinking. You will drink whatever you can get down and keep down. If its not "ON THE LIST" (if you have a list), don't worry yourself about it. Just stay hydrated by whatever way you can. Don't worry about protein the first week or so. Just try to keep all things sugar free. 90% of the docs and their staff area clueless about what we need to do or what we "can" do. We are all different. What works for one patient may not work for another.
