Default Feeling HUNGRY 11 days post-op and incision won't heal...

I thought we weren't supposed to feel hunger anymore? I have hunger pangs all of the time.

Also, my largest incision keeps leaking orange fluid. So much so that I wake up at night with a soaked shirt (2 nights in a row now). I keep putting liquid bandaid on it but that doesn't last long. Time for stitches?
    Reason: spelling error

You should probably call your doctor about the leaking incision. Ask him/her about the hunger pangs, but the leak is more important right now. Since they cut out so much of your stomach, it reduces the area that produces ghrelin, the hunger hormone. You should not be as hungry as you were before the surgery, but you might still feel some hunger.

I felt hunger to. Not to the point I did before surgery - but I was still hungry. I was not allowed anything but liquids for two weeks after surgery. I was SO hungry - I took a 1/2 of a Ritz Cracker and gummed it. I think its what we think we are missing.
I agree, your doctor should know about your incision still leaking.
    Good Luck!

Keeping in mind that everyone is different; try this for the hunger grumbles...drink a glass of water or gatorade. If that does not help wait the 30 minutes and have a protien drink. My mind has been in controll of my body for so long; that it is hard for me to tell if I'm really hungry or if I just think I am. The water doesn't hurt but if it takes care of my desire to have something then good more power to me. But if I still think I'm in need of something to eat then the protien drink should take care of the hunger issue plus be on the list of things I can have. I just recently started regular foods again, and have to make myself stay on a schedule of eating or I forget to all together. I wish you all luck....I keep telling myself NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS BEING THIN WILL FEEL....talk with yall later..

You feel real hunger in a different way with the sleeve, so it may just be emotional hunger your feeling. Tough I know, but it will pass.

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I'm no stranger to being under the knife. Any type of leakage in that quantity is something I'd talk to my doctor about. A little is normal and expected, and it's meant to be clear. If it's a yellow/orange it could mean a mild infection or something along that line. I think we'd all rather you be safe than sorry.

I was trying to figure out was what i was feeling was hunger or it just being in my head. I am 3 wks out and i do feel hungry at times. I am not sure if it is in my head and i been trying to figure out why do i have this feeling because the hunger hormone is suppose to be removed. Now a friend of mine said maybe they didn’t remove the entire hormone just some of it. She thinks because then we will forget to eat and become malnutrition. She has a good point.

I too want to know why I have the hunger desire...

I am STILL hungry all of the time and am just over 3 weeks out. My largest incision is STILL NOT HEALED yet. It is mostly closed now but has a small hole in the middle of it that leaks puss and blood. I am on an antibiotic but that doesn't seem to help. Back to the doc tomorrow.

Francour... did you have glue to close incisions? I am starting to worry that my glue is still on, but maybe that is a good thing!

I am hungry, but then I eat a few bites, I am done, and usually sick to my stomache.... then hungry again! So frustrating!

Yes, they glued them shut. I thought it finally healed but it opened again today and puss came out. Yuck. Still hungry too.

My surgeon was asked about hunger as well...his reply is that it is stomach acid. Acid reducers help, especially in the early stages post-op. I no longer feel hunger at all, more my body tells me that it needs some energy. I too, have forgotten to eat. But I pay for it by feeling dizzy/weak from not getting enough in.
    Update on your condition, please?

Was wondering how everyone is doing! Had my surgery june 23rd and though I don't over eat, I think I'm hungry. Like I could still eat more than 3 or 4 oz in a sitting. I already take an acid reducer

Still hungry all of the time. I don't believe it is "emotional" hunger as some have stated. I know the difference. Has the acid reducer helped at all? I was thinking of trying that. My surgery coordinator told me today that maybe I am eating (drinking right now actually) too fast and need to slow down. Next week I can start pureed foods...looking forward to that. My doc put me on 6wk liquid diet. That is hard when I am feeding 4 little people and a husband every day.

My incision broke open AGAIN today...so weird. My surgery was June 17th and I can't get this thing to heal!!!
