Default McDonalds or any fast food?

    Hey y'all

Im only 4 days post op and was curious once I can start eating real foods again is it possible to have a cheeseburger here and there or will I gain weight back if I do so? Im not going to make it a habit but was worried if I have to eat a strict healthy meal the rest of my life and not be able to enjoy the bday cake or family bbq get togethers! Please help!

This is my belief and I know it's not shared by all.

You can eat the cheeseburger....not every day....not every week but eating those things that are bad for you is not completely off your list forever. Once in a while will not hurt or kill you. Maybe once a month. You probably won't be able to eat the whole thing anyway.

Save them for a special treat....but fair warning.....I did a fat free diet once....it worked but one of the side affects is that I can no longer stand any fast food burger but Wendy's.

You might find that you don't want it. I firmly believe that we are not doing this to deprive ourselves of all the wonderful food out there, we are doing this to get a fresh start on eating well.

Fast food does NOT make you fat.....eating too much of it too often makes us fat.

Well I tried a double cheeseburger over the weekend at McDonald's and found it upset my stomach. I've never really tasted the fat and grease in it before until now. It wasn't a great feeling and it's nice not craving it all of the time.

Eating healthy can be so tasty and once you get used to the different food choices its not hard to get past those food centered times. I dont do fast food of any kind but that is because I find it disgusting but I make cheeseburgers at home a lot (like 3-4 meals a week). If you find a healthier alternative to the things you want it makes it a lot easier too. I find since surgery things dont taste the way I thought they did. Dont stress about not being able to enjoy yourself when it comes to food its just a lot easier to control the amount of food you eat which makes a huge difference.

Hi Abby! My sister-in-law went to dinner with my husband and I before my surgery at Steak-n-Shake. She had the western burger w/o the bun and ate about a third of it. She's 2 years post-op. She's very selective as to what she puts in her body now but not having beef forever is one of things your body will tell you. She couldn't eat beef for the first year... it got "stuck", but now she can enjoy a thin burger but still no steak. Marinated meat works best for her. Now this is being said as we are all different. I know people who can eat potatoes, I'm one of them, and others that can't tolerate them. I've heard the same of rice. My sister-in-law indulges in a very small piece of pie at Thanksgiving but omits the crust so avoid any swallowing issues.

Testing the waters when you are reintoduced to solids is a lengthy process so I've heard. My new sleeve tolerates pureed chicken and fish very well. And it tastes wonderful. Think about today and what you can have and leave the future where it is, in the future. When you're able to sample again you'll see what works. Sweets for me at this juncture in the road make me gag. Eating cake or pie or anything like that does not even appeal.

Give your body time to heal and then follow drs orders and test out your new sleeve when the time is right. You may find you no longer want or need those "bad" foods. Doesn't mean we can't have bites, we just don't want to make it a common occurance. Healthy is our new lifestyle and we will be rewarded for it. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey!

I've been pondering this myself even though I am just beginning my journey. The way I see it, I will allow myself to indulge once in a while. I will be the person asking for a sliver of cake. I will be the person who brings a doggy bag home. Once healed and on regular food, I will continue to go out to eat. I'm just going to have to make different choices. Maybe salads. Maybe meals that make for good leftovers. I have a 15 yo son who will be in his glory as he loves leftovers. I will adjust. And I will be healthier.

Since you can only put a small amount of food into you, try to make sure it's the best food you can possibly find.

If you want a burger, make one. Make it awesome! Put your favorite things on it. Make them the best-tasting things you can dream of.

Eat the burger slowly, loving every bite. Slow like sex. Love. The. Burger.

And when your pouch says "I'm full", stop and toss the rest, or save it for later.

That is how you should have a burger, or BBQ, or cake.

Don't go to McDonalds. That's like dating an abusive person. It's quick and easy and maybe comfortable...but it hurts you in the long run.

You can do better. You deserve better.

    We believe in you.

If you do not eat the bun you can have a hamburger. Thye also have a grilled chicken wrap that is only 390 calories. Only have this once in a while, not often.

I will never understand the love affair people have with fast food joints. Cheapest possible ingredients prepared in the most financially efficient way and because they would not sell if they were in a line up with well made hamburgers, they have to spend the national debt of third world nations on emotive advertising to flog them to us.
To answer your question, Yes you can eat that shit when your tummy is healed. You can eat anything when your tummy is healed - just in smaller portions. Up to you to make the choices that suit your goals.

I have eaten out with my family several times since being sleeved. At the Chinese buffet I had the egg drop soup and peel & eat shrimp. At a burger joint I had a sliced turkey on pita bread.. and yes, I had some of the bread. At McDonalds I have just stolen a few of my husband's chicken nuggets. I can only eat 3 before I am full.
Today was my son's 15th birthday and he wanted to go to the pizza buffet. This was harder. They had some type of soup with pasta in it, so I just skimmed off the broth and had that. There was also a pasta salad with black & green olives in it, and I had a few bites. As for his cake & ice cream here at home, I had one small bite of ice cream and a few bites of his cake. I know that more than that would have made me sick, so it was easy to stop at that!

Whoa.....why would you think of mcnasty for your new stomach? It seems like you need to think why you had a major weight loss surgery in the first place. Mind over food. And that goes for me too.

You will have to learn your way around the fast food world. I have on occasion had to eat fast food due to traveling away from home since my surgery. I like Pollo Loco and Taco Bell when I have to eat fast food. At Pollo Loco I get their chicken and veggie combo, at Taco Bell I get the pinto beans or a chicken taco and don't eat the tortilla. I do find it difficult to order off the children's menu since most of the items are things like fried chicken tenders, corn dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc. Either I order al la carte, share or just take the remaining food home. I have also come across restaurants that have refused to let me order off of their children's menu, charge for a plate to share, or don't have a children's menu.
