New Whey Liquid Protein Shots.... love 'em or leave 'em?

When I started my sleeve research I watched many many Youtube videos made by people who were planning for or had just had the surgery. Many of them had these nifty little protein "bullets" with them for the trip to the hospital. They are only 3.8 fl. oz. but contain 42g of protein. I thought this sounded like a brilliant idea... little volume, lots of protein...just what I'll be needing. So I ordered two 12-packs of the stuff and since then have read negative reviews by people stating that they're a kind of protein your body can't use and they're useless.

Based on this new information I'm considering just sending the whole package back without even opening it and trying them, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had used them, even if only for the immediate post-op clear liquids only phase, and had any success with them.

I'm not expecting them to be delicious. In my prior experience with non-food protein ANYthing, I'm satisfied with anything that doesn't make me gag. So far I like the Isopure blue raspberry protein drink quite well, though it does offer that wonderful aftertaste you get with anything that has sucralose in it. It also required drinking 20 oz. to get 40 grams of protein, which was why I'd love to try making popsicles out of it.

Any input on these protein shots or bullets would be very helpful... thanks!

I don't know about them not being any good...I bought a 12 pack 2 days after surg...I still have 11...lol...made me gag and couldn't swallow 1...so I've stuck to Whey Powder

I don't know anything about them but I drink Pure Protein 32 or 35g of protein and my nut says sometimes that is just too much protein for our bodies to handle/process in one shot.

I got some at Walgreens and mixed them with lemonade and they weren't bad. I think I got the wrong kind tho and am making a trip to Walmart this weekend to get the other ones. I can't remember the name but it comes in a tube.

BARF! I got some this week at Wallyworld and they suck! Although they contain no sugar the minute i tasted it i could feel my stomach touch my back! Its so sweet that the most i could drink of these things were 3 sips! I got the fruit punch kind and i still have all of them. I like that they have a lot of protien but dang you can only get that protien if you can drink the whole thing and they are so sweet it cause me to have anal glycoma..... I couldnt see my ass doing that!

Tried them on advice from my doc (she said to mix with about 2-3 oz of water). Thought they were the nastiest thing to pass my lips (and I had the gastroview after surgery). Also, I was told by her that our bodies can only process about 30 grams of protein in one punch and she recommended splitting the tube into 2 servings.

I had them recommended to me by Dennis, Zeecavaricci, on this forum and he told me during his liquid diet he would keep a tube of them and just sip on them all day long throughout the day, that way at days end, you have 42 grams of protein down and you only need to come up with 8 more grams. He also suggested that you add it to your juice or water. I tried the fruit punch and it wasn't bad, sweet yes, but sour also so it helped me get it down sips at a time. The Acai Berry was a little worse but I could stomach it. I am just going to stick with the fruit punch.

He would have told me if it was a protein source we couldn't use after our sleeve or for the pre-op diet.

I have tried two flavors and found them wayyyyyyyu to sweet for me.. The remainder will be thrown out. I prefer the Isopure zero carb that gives me 20 oz fluid and 40 gm protein at the same time

I too have read bad things about them. My RD(registered Dietitian) said they were good to use. Of course it's best to get your protein from food when you can. But that is not always easy to do. I used them post op and still use them a few times a week even now. I use 1/2 of a bottle(new whey so 21grams of protein) with crystal light with the same flavor. My favorite is grape new whey and mix it with grape crystal light and 32 oz of water. You don't even know it's in the bottle when mixed like this. I have had success using it and will stay with it. Probably the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth, and trust me, since I had my surgery in November, I have put alot of disgusting things in my mouth, lol!!

My NUT told me that I shouldn't use them because we actually aren't getting the protein that they state on the bottles. So I'm going to stay away from them. She did give me a nonflavored power from Unjury that you can mix with anything to up your protein and I like it. No flavor and I added to sugar free pudding. you should try that.
