Congrats
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's fabulous news!!!!!!!!!
I went to the endocrinologist a couple of weeks ago and they took me off one of my Diabex, so now only take two of a morning and one at bedtime.
But to be off the insulin.....so happy for you!!!!!
)
before the sleeve I was using insulin 80 units in the morning and 70 units in the evening of 75/25 mix and sugar was still 250 and above. the day after surgery no more 75/25 mix still have to do sliding scale the most i have had to take is 6 units a few days after surgery. Now blood sugar is 150 - 165. So the sleeve does help with diabetic problems.
Hello. I was an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic prior to surgery on 7/17/12. The doctor told me it would take as much as 6 weeks for my blood sugar to come down and stabilize. The first week my readings remained in 200's and I continued to take insulin. However, my second week, I did not have any readings above 200. I've ceased insulin due to too many lows! It gets lower each day. 173 was my fasting today. My motivation for having to surgery was to "cure" diabetes. According to research at the Cleveland Diabetic Research Clinic (was on Good Morning America), bariatric surgery is being considered as the "cure" for Type 2. I still continue to eat sugar-free foods. I'm still on liquid diet. I have lost 17lbs so far. I'm impressed and would do it again! I do continue to monitor my blood glucose daily.
Hi there. I have an appointment next week with the doctor too. Like you my main concern too is to get off of all the medications I'm on. I hope my insurance will approve it too. Good luck to you. It's nice to have a place to chat with other people going through the same thing
I had high blood pressure and was on meds for it not to mention I could never see my ankles as they were always swollen. Two weeks post op I have ankles and no meds! not to mention have have normal blood pressure for the first time in over 3 years. I stronly recommend the sleeve! My good friend had bypass and is having a hard time. Iv had no issues and inches as well as weight comming off nicely.
HI there, prior to my Sleeve Op, I had type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure and cholestrol was a little high too. I was on medications for all of these. Straight after my op I was off the Diabetes meds, then my blood pressure went the opposite way, so there went those meds too. Then after a blood test, the cholestrol meds went too. So there are sure other benefits besides feeling on top of the world, losing the weight and buying those nice clothes. Best of luck.

I hhad my surgery Dec 2011. I still take my diabetic medicine. I had a modified sleeeve only. My problem now is diabetic lazy stomach. I do not feel hunger because my stomach never totally empties. Has anyone ever had this happen? If so how do they fix it. I do not feel hunger or thirst. Please can someone give me some hope that this will go away soon. Thx.
So technically I have diabetes and hypertension... But my blood pressure is normal and my blood sugar after I got out of the hospital sits around 95. I haven't taken any of my meds since the surgery because I don't need them. Personally that was the reason I had the sleeve. It's been amazing since before surgery my blood sugar was 170 with 50 units of insulin a day...
I had been on a CPAP for years and had moved up to a By Pap just before my surgery in July of 11.....I was able to get off of Lasix and the machine as soon as I had surgery...what a relief not to have all those straps and mask on my face at night....or sounding like a buzz saw when I sleep. This surgery saved my life!
basically your stomach refuses to work. It never empties. A modified sleeve is when they just go in and remove the upper right hand part of the stomach to control sugar and BP. I still take my meds but my sugar is no longer in the 300-400 range.
Before my surgery, I was pre diabetic, had hypertension, severe and debilitating back pain and PCOS. My weight was 275 and I decided to go on a diet prior to my surgery. I lost 25 pounds (mostly because I fell in love) and then after the surgery on October 1st, until today... my weight is 221. I am off of all of my medications. So in my case, yes... this weight loss has allowed me to stop Metformin, Vicodin, Naprosyn, BP meds, fluid pills and multiple antacids.
This weight loss after the surgery has been effortless. It is just coming off with no effort at all on my part other than nausea and stomach aches. To me, it's very much worth it.
The answer is easy. Weight loss can help with all the above mentioned diseases. The sleeve is not the magic bulletin it's a tool to help you achieve the weight loss you need to be as healthy as possible. The levee will hopefully help you eat to live versus live to eat. By doing that the weight will stay off and the days of throwing back a handful of pills will be over for good. Like others I too am no longer on meds but I credit weight loss, not the sleeve. Even if I never lose another pound it was worth it to be healthy.
