My hair fell out starting at 3 months and went until about 5 months. In clumps. Thankfully I had INCREDIBLY thick and massive amounts of hair. One wouldn't be able to tell that it started falling out. However, at 9.5 months out, I have TONS of regrowth (which can be a pain to deal with, also - but so worth it). It just happens and is all part of the journey.

Does everyone who has this procedure suffer the hair loss. Im only 6 weeks out from surgery tomorrow & eat 100g protein a day and take a hair vitamin. Im terrified of my long hair thinning out & having to cut it, Im really attached to it and short hair doesn't suit me at any weight. So do most people experience this or just some??

Lots of people experience hair loss to differing degrees. My time frame has been very much like Lisa describes. The rate of loss is slowing down markedly now, and I wonder if it's partly because my weight loss rate has also slowed down. Anyway, I can also see new growth, and people have generally not noticed my thinning hair - just something I was a little self-conscious about. My husband noticed it - not on my head, but just the amount of my hairs you find everywhere around the house and on my clothes. BUT, it's a temporary irritation compared to the massive positive outcome of weight loss.

Yup, I too am in the 'shedding like a dog' season. For me it started at just about 3 months post op. I make sure I get enough protein, but I am not doing anything as for hair loss, just trying to ride it out. I too have to clean my hairbrush every time I use it and then lose small handfuls when I shower. But all in all it is not too bad. I did cut my hair shorter, just to make what is falling out a bit easier to manage, but my stylist actually recommended that I not go very short, as she said that would accentuate the thinning, and that it was better to keep it long enough to wear in a pony tail if I were to get any bald patches, as this would help to cover it up. I am bummed about losing hair, but when I look at the overall picture, it is worth it.

HI! I am four months out and am also experiencing a ton of hair loss. It started about a month ago, and Just like the rest of you , I have hair everywhere... the brush ,the shower, inside my purse, all over my clothes..you name it! I had 2 inches cut off the length of my hair because it looked dry and brittle and my hair does look so much healthier; however, it still continues to fall. I am very mindful of the protein and vitamins and make sure to keep up with them. Yesterday I bought some Rogaine , hoping that will help too. Everyone who has gone through this says to just do your best with the protein and it should stop falling out at around 8 months, meaning that I have 4 more months to go.UGH! It is very scary , but I suppose it is just a part of this process and worth it in the end. I take great pride in my hair and like to blow it up as much as I can ( You Texas ladies will know just what I am talking about...every girl in Texas has a set of hot rollers by her 18th birthday..the bigger the hair, the closer to god ! ) But , at the end of the day, would I go through this surgery again knowing what I know now and how it was going to affect my life? Absolutely! I believe my hair will grow back and I continue to get healthier everyday. I will have to just suck it up for the next 4 or so months until the hair loss stops....maybe I will invest in some nifty hats!!

The body clock indeed. I had my period prior to and during surgery but my cycle sped up and my hormones started raging two weeks after. I noticed my disposition getting snappier and not very nice as well. What flies out of my mouth sometimes scares me! My hair loss is on the same schedule as you described and I've lost well over 1/2 of my long thick and beautiful mane of hair. I've gradually cut over 8" from it and layered it to get the dead and dull looking parts gone. I quit losing heavily and then just a few weeks ago it started again, although not quite as heavily. My hair looks a bit wacky underneath as the growth is now about 2" long! At least my shorter hair style looks good with my new thinner face and single chin!!!

I discovered something yesterday looking at my regrowth hair around the front - I've got way more greys in it. How weird is that - I'm guessing it must be post-surgery shock or something. Previously I've had only the very occasional (perhaps one in six months) single grey hair and they were completely different texture to the rest of my hair being very thick and wirey. In my new hair I saw about 6 or 7, grey but fine like the rest of my hair. Be interesting to see whether the grey continues or whether this is just a temporary reaction to surgery.

Good for you that you overcame with your hair loss. I have experienced it too and I overcame it after I took Reloxe because they have Natural hair regrowth supplements.

Once you start Rogaine you have to continue it. If you stop it, any hair growth will fall out. So, make sure this is what you want to do. good luck

I'm 4 months out and it started a few weeks ago, not horribly but started...I also have short hair but where it BIG..I'm in NY but you would think Texas by my big hair..so lots of products to keep it looking big and not spotty. I just ordered the Joan Rivers hair stuff on QVC haven't received it yet, but it got rave reviews you dab it on your scalp to hid any thinning spots hoping this will work when or if I get to that point.
50 lbs down and very thankful for that!!

In U.K the hospital I had sleeve at recommends selenium 5ml twice a day & zinc 125mg 3 times a day. I've been on both for nearly 2 months and have noticed the hair loss has slowed down. Also have a look at the following link for a better understanding
