Am not really familiar gastric sleeve surgery in the United Kingdom, but I am going to venture into a guess. Just about everything is more expensive in the UK, so it just follows that medical procedures would be too.
As for differences in terms of technology and expertise, I think that the UK doesn't have any edge over the US, or India for that matter. What is more, I am betting the Indian doctors would have had more experience doing surgical procedures than those in the UK precisely because more people opt to travel to India rather than have it done there just to save money.
I agree. I think that it's kinda overkill to charge twice more than what US centers and doctors charge for the same procedure.
is there any body in the uk who has had the sleeve ?
I am from the UK but live in France. I had my band here in France and will be having the sleeve next year. Obviously I am in touch with people in the UK and the sleeve is still very unknown, as it is here in France. Problem in the Uk is that the health system is very overstretched, so any gastric surgery is low priority. For those that can afford to go private there arent than many centres specialising in WLS so I guess this pushes the price up.
Here in France WLS is getting more common but the centres are few and far between. My specialist is 2 1/2 hours away from me. But, France has a much more preventative health care policy to UK.

Ah thankyou so much, i've been suffering terrible heartburn and last week only lost a pound, my dietician said weight loss will slow right down or even stop if you don't eat enough, i just haven't felt like anything so i been having 200mls smoothie in the morning, one egg scrambled with little milk and cheese for lunch and pureed shepherds pie or like you fish in parsley sauce, chicken casserole etc but really small bowls. Maybe i should try and introduce a yoghurt throughout the day as a snack? What do you think?
I am so pleased i had sugery though i think of what i used to eat and drink and its amazing now compared to just over a month ago xxx
Sweetie , you poor thing have you been given medication for the heartburn.
im on lansoprazole twice day. gp will give it you.
Or have a bit of gaviscon.
try mashed banana, or yoghurt.
if you dont feel like eating sweetie have milkshakes, slimfast, etc.
See what your eating prior to the heartburn.
I have a friend who is 14/16mths post op and she has done atkins type food and reached her target !
The thing is what we lose should stay off.

Its early days and your doing great.
U can always p.m. if you need any help also.
hugs again.
I was having the Lansoprazole but stopped them a few days ago, i am going to try and get to the GP for a repeat. I have some Cambridge diet shakes left from when i used to do that diet so might see how they go down as they will be ok for a while. Are you doing any excercise, i'm swimming and been on treadmill a few times getting better ha!!! What date did you have your op? xxx
