Hi. Where are you having surgery? If the message was directed at me, then please ask away and if it wasn't, then ask away anyway and i'll help if I can. I'm nearly 5 months out now and 6 1/2 stone down - it's the best decision I have ever made x

I think it all depends on your local PCT. My BMI was 49 and I was 43 at the time of going on the list. My bp wasn't high (then) and my cholesterol was ok too. It's such a shame that it's a postcode lottery. I agree that it's not for everyone - you have to change your whole way of thinking and eating - it's most definitely not a quick fix, it's hard work, but it will save the NHS millions in the long run if the right people have it. Keep on plugging away and good luck! x

Good Luck Ricky. I have to say that my experience with the sleeve surgery was horrible. I had no pain but I was sooooo sick, kept throwing up blood those first 3 days and ended up having to stay 4 days because of it. However, I am still so glad I had it. Food no longer controls anything I do. I have to force myself to eat because I"m never hungry So I wish you good luck in this new journey in your life and becoming the person you want to be
I have to say that I have been very unlucky when it comes to hunger, as has the woman that was in with me, we have been hungry since we came round from surgery!! I'm still starving but unable to eat very much at all. 5 months out and i'm only on 600 calories a day. I also regretted having it done for the first few weeks but once you get your head round your new eating habits and really take it on board, it's fantastic. My cousin had it done a few years before me and lost 8 stone but has now put on 5 stone of it by not being sensible with her diet, so it is possible to undo the majority of it. Healthy eating and exercise is the answer.

Hi all,
I've got my consultation with the hospital group in newcastle uk on the 28th match 2013. I've battled with weight since primary school and years of seeing gp for help have got me no where. I'm pushed to go private.
Nhs would be amazing but to do another round of obstacles before even being referred and then being put on waiting list, I think it would be yet another year!. By then I'm sure I would double my size.
Hospital group are charging £10,000! A huge amount. I don't want to go abroad reall as I have two young kids, with no family help apart from husband. Anyone no any other good reputable place in UK that offer a more competitive price?
Only good news with private surgery is that I can literally have it done within the month after my 1st consultation!

Hi-I approached my doctor about bariatric surgery and a month later she called me to say I had the funding approved by my PCT. I was given a choice of hospitals and after doing some research I chose UCHL in London. Dr Adamo was my surgeon and he guided me toward the sleeve, however the choice was totally mine as to which surgery I wanted. I had my op 3 months after getting funding approved - 15th March 213. All went ok - was out of hospital 2 days later and I h ave to say I feel absolutely fine. The NHS did me proud! From my initial enquiry with my dr to the op was about 4 or 5 months! I lost 20lb on my preop diet and have last 20lb in the 2 weeks since op.
I'm having my op privately on 21st May with Shaw Somers I'm really excited but worried about the eating and drinking post op as I'm vegetarian and hoping I can get the protein in ok. I have to do a pre-op milk diet which will be a challenge but just want it done now and to start losing weight.
Good luck. I had to do the milk diet too, it's tough but you lose a lot of weight on it even before the surgery! I struggle to eat meat at all since my operation, so i've turned to fish, which seems to be a little easier. I'm not sure i'm getting enough protein but bloods seem to be coming back ok. I'm sure you will be fine.
