I've been on the waiting list for Ms Chang at Kings in London for over 19 months now. Hoping to have a date in August finally.

I just had the gastric sleeve last week. Cost to me £0.00 pounds. Yes, zero. I got it done through the national health service. I suppose all my work contributions over the years have paid for this. Working over 25 years and not many days off sick so now ive just got what I reckon im entitled to. However, certain criteria has to be met to qualify. BMI has to be around 50 plus, waiting list around 18 months and you have to show that you have tried diets. I cant fault the national health service here in the UK, maybe thats why we get all the immigrants trying to live here. I know the surgery is cheaper elsewhere if you travel and want to pay for it and i know Belgium is also popular for WLS with excellent doctors there.
Congratulations! Keep me posted with your journey. I have finally got a date for my surgery - 28 August! Nearly 2 years on the waiting list and I can't wait. Good old NHS. As you say, we have worked long enough and hard enough and paid enough contributions to allow this to happen on the NHS. I wish you all the luck x

Best of luck for the 28th August. I know evryone is different but believe its nothing to worry about. As the days were getting nearer for me, I was having all kinds of feelings about the pain, the surgery, the recovery etc. The most painful thing for me for the whole process was when the anaesetist? was putting the needles in on the morning of the surgery in the operating room. It was short lived pain as 3 mins later i was under. lol.
After surgery, i had no pain, i think the hospital managed the pain well but even when i went home with lots of painkillers, i only took them for a day as I had no pain. Its more discomfort with the wind. Im using Rennie deflatine sugar free tablets that dissolve in the mouth. Wind can last 3 days to 3 weeks. Best to keep moving as much as possible, helps dislodge the wind. Im feeling so good now a week on that ive even booked a week away holiday abroad. Checked with the doctor who said if your feeling good there is no problem flying , just have to wear the stockings for the flight. Might as well go somewhere nice to recoup than sit at home watching the olympics. lol
Hello all I was refered by my GP in July 2011 and fingers crossed i should be getting my sleeve this year. My PCT keep moving the goal posts and its so fustrating, but we now have to loose 5% of our weight in order to get WLS on the NHS.
Im back to see my dietition again on the 29th Aug and i have 15lbs to go so im doing everything i can to get this off so i can go back to my surgeon and then fingers crossed get the op within the 18 week guidetime.
Such a long journey, but i guess it will be worth it in the end.
Great to hear your stories x
I had sleeve in Mexico on 25th Jume, my two friends here in London had the sleeve done at St Georges in Tooting London and both are well, and both had alot more painkillers than me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Ive lost 23 lbs and can eat a little of anything...cant exercise yet, only walk, am tierd all the time esp. after walking...hoping to up the ante this week with the exercise....Im in Putney..Hi all Sarah xx
Hi Sarah, hard to believe this time last week i was recovering from the surgery. I was referred to St Georges in Tooting, but seems St Anthonys in Sutton is their overflow hospital. St Anthonys is a private hospital, so guess i was lucky to go their. Certainly can tell the difference when its private, lol.
It's fantastic to hear that you are doing so well so soon after surgery! And good for you on the holiday front - i don't blame you! Enjoy!! I think the only thing I am worrying about is how I will feel after the op but the thought of weight dropping off and being slim for the first time in my life, is by far out weighing that!! Whereabouts did you have your surgery?

I work in the NHS and have also been on the waiting list for an eternity and unfortunately I think you'll find the 18 week wait doesn't count for this kind of hope, but i'm sure you will get your op soon.
