Default Avoid Antacids Containing Calcium If You Have Kidney Stones

If you have kidney stones or any other type of kidney condition, and are taking antacids containing calcium to treat your reflux symptoms, you should find ones with out it, or consult your doctor first. Calcium and oxalate are the two major components of kidney stones. Your doctor should tell you exactly how much calcium you should be taking. If your doctor recommends a specific calcium supplement, then you will definitely want to take antacids without calcium.

Default Re: Avoid Antacids Containing Calcium If You Have Kidney Stones

I read something really interesting in my bariatric pamphlet about this-- Apparently in our program we're supposed to take calcium citrate and not calcium carbonate as calcium carbonate can lead to the formation of kidney stones. I guess calcium citrate is also easier absorbed in a low acid environment. Don't take my word for it though-- It was in my literature for my program at Fort Bragg.
