I will be starting on my pre-op diet very soon. What protein drinks taste the best??? Not too sweet??? Any ideas??? I heard Isopure has a line that aren't like "sweet choc., van., or strawberry shakes!"
I have found the EAS Advantage shakes to be tolerable. I tend to mix half chocolate and half strawberry, or use a vanilla and add a tsp. of instant decaf coffee. All of those with ice of course, since they must be COLD for me to drink any of them. On my pre-op I did the glucose controlled Boost as that was my doctor's requirement. I actually liked those, but can't have them post-op. I think because they are lower in protein.
I just bought one called Premiere Protein which I advise everyone NOT to try. Horrible aftertaste...Atkins tasted MUCH better than that. My two cases are going back to Costco. I have heard tremendous things about Pure Protein. I didn't find them by the case though :-( I bought them from Vitacost for 2.29 ea. They'll be here in a few days and I will subscribe to this post so I can tell you what I think. One thing I have done, and is quite a money saver, is to make my own using whey protein powder. I currently use Body Fortress Advanced Whey Protein. Two scoops is 52grams of protein. Use sugar free coconut or almond milk as the liquid, and then 1 or 2 strawberries or 1 T. cocoa powder, depending on the flavor. I also use a product called PB2. It's a powdered peanut butter that is amazing! It adds 5 grams of protein per T. and only 35 calories! They now have it in chocolate too. Go to Amazon.com and type in PB2 if you're looking for this stuff.
I love Premier brand shakes. No grittiness, chalkiness, or aftertaste...based on my taste buds. My nutritionist actually suggested that if I use protein shakes or powders to make sure they have at least 20g of protein and no more than 40 (any more than that per serving is a waste) and to also check that they are not high in carbs or sugar. Premier brand has 30g of protein, only 5g of carbs and 1g of sugar. When making your own you have to be really careful not to add to much sugar (which can come from excess fruit and "sweeteners" (syrups)).

Premier Protein from Costco. I read a comment above about how bad they are; however I believe they are really good and the more you read on here, the more you will find that they are one of the more desirable and most commonly discussed. Chocolate, not vanilla.
I LOVE Premier shakes from Sams and Costco. I also like Matrix Simple Vanilla. You can add SF flavors to it and create various flavors.

Everyone's taste is different. My nutritionist gave me a sample of Premier Protein and I loved it and that is what I have used since surgery. I have hated every other one I have tried! The chocolate is better than vanilla as I personally think the vanilla tastes too sweet. I would ask my nutritionist if she has any samples for you to try.
I am really surprised that so many of you like the Premiere. Maybe it would be better with ice in the blender? It's true we all have different "buds". I have heard great things about Pure Protein, which is what I had confused Premiere with, which is why I bought 3 cases. I just found it to have a very strange aftertaste that I couldn't get out of my mouth until I ate something. I'm very picky about flavor. It has got to be really good for me to call it good. Atkins tasted much better to me than Premiere.
I'm preparing my body and my house for life post-surgery!! It's ironic 'cause DH and I always seem to be dieting, so there is not a lot in the kitchen that must go. Anyhow, we're experimenting with protein powders and have tried Body Fortress, Syntrax, Muscle Milk and Unjury.
I've tried other liquid-type diets in the past (Slimfast, Optifast) and I cannot drink a protein powder or powdered meal unless it is mixed with skim milk or almond milk. Just bought Syntrax Chocolate Truffle and Syntrax Cookies 'n Cream. Both are REALLY tasty. Over time, I imagine I'll use Greek yogurt to mix up the powders (I love Greek yogurt) along with a bit of skim milk or water.
Body Fortress protein is good, too. We tried the vanilla and the chocolate. Both are a bit too rich, thick and sweet for my taste but my husband likes both a lot. The vanilla is great for mixing in fruits...banana, a few strawberries, mango. Also, BF doesn't seem to be a great post-surgery choice 'cause it's rather high in carbs and fat. I know Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras endorses Body Fortress and he is a GREAT surgeon. He also supports the use of Premier, Unjury and Syntrax post-surgery, so every surgeon is a bit different. Muscle Milk was juts okay.
Anyhow...I like protein or liquid drinks a lot. Sometimes I find I am more thirsty than hungry. Also, it is very difficult for me to eat first thing in the morning. I'm going to experiment with the protein powders a bit when I start my two week pre-op on March 19th...I'll let you know how it goes!
Me too!!! We are on the back half of waiting ladies
I picked up a few flats of Premier Protein from costco--chocolate. Not bad at all, and have tried muscle milk, lean shake, and another GNC brand. Have to work my way through some powder samples pick up a tub of the most palatable.
See you in TJ ladies

Ditto, I have 3 brands of powder protein that I now use for back up because I am hooked on Costco premier protein, It is 24.99 for 18 premade servings and they are awesome and convenient to take to work. I keep an extra case in my trunk so I never go without my grams per day.
