Default Body shapers? Yes or no?

I have been thinking of wearing body shapers (spanx) I even bought some. The problem is they look so uncomfortable. So they just sit in the dresser. I also feel like every one will know I'm wearing it. But anywho, asides from the smoothing out, are there any other benefits? Is there a downside to not wearing one? Thanks!

I think it's personal choice. I have some as well-don't ever wear them but might if I wore more formal/clingy/sheer clothes on a regular basis. Some people love their shapers and won't go anywhere w/out them.

I'm planning on CS at some point so that will ultimately be my shaper

I don't wear them now because they are uncomfortable!! I used to when I was FAT but now on principle I don't- though if I wanted to wear something in particular that needed the extra "oomph" I would consider it. I do not think there is a medical down side to wearing one though- its not going to damage the skin tightening process or anything so worry not!

I think for me, bodyshapers help me feel a bit more confident in my clothes. I don't always wear one but when I'm wearing something that I really want to look great in from BEHIND...both from my butt and a smooth line on my back with no little bulges showing it doesn't hurt. I don't like to see other people "bulging" or rolls of fat and I don't want to present that to others either. Consider it a throw back from being so obese for so many years and having to dress in a professional manner for my job. I've always loved clothes, no matter how big I was and it's truer even more so now.
I believe it's a matter of personal preference. I've never been bothered by the comfort of foundation garments. Today is not like it used to be years ago when I wore a heavy girdle and longline bra, etc. I'm showing my age now! Ha!
Most of the time now I just wear a control top phanty hose that pretty much smooths me out in my troubled butt and hip area. I can pull them up below the "girls" and it takes care of smoothing out any issues of back bulges here and there. Aah, what men don't have to go through!
    Hope this helps.

I have not worn one post-op. I did not even wear the binder provided by by surgeon post-op.

I will say that prior to surgery I did wear Spanx quite often. But since I began working out I have seen noticeable changes in my skin and haven't needed to wear Spanx even under my dresses. It's funny but whenever I wear something that is form fitting I say to people who know me "this is all me...I'm not wearing any shape wear whatsoever"...hahaha

So I agree it is a personal choice. Do what makes you comfortable!

I wear them all the time, but only because I'm so self conscious. I need to feel like I'm being held together and supported, not jiggling everywhere. I'm hoping that when I lose the weight I won't have to, so I can be free lol. Whatever is comfortable for you.

well do not worry, they are going to be big soon
Just wear the ones are confortable. The reason I started to wear them is for the giggling. If you wear a pair of tight jeans is fine. If you wear a dress then I feel like I am shaking way tooo much. SO I use them generally to make a smooth and less giggling look. I wear the right size and honestly make me walk more realxed knowing that I am not looking like a jello

Yeah, I am all about the tight jeans, esp. after losing weight, but there are also times of the month where I want no restriction AT ALL, then it's time for a big loose dress. I wear a half slip under that which is as far as I'll go

I wear them all the time. Not spans usually but flexee's. they are reasonably priced at Costco and quite comfortable. I'm at goal and beyond but I still like feeling like everything is where it should be and a bit smoother.

They really don't have to be uncomfortable. You just need to find some that fit well.
Hit first goal of 155 at 9.5 months. Setting new goal of 145 which is less then I've ever weighed in my adult life. Woo hoo!
Hit 2nd goal of 145 at 12 months. Room for 1 more goal, I want to be less then half the person I used to be which means 139

I bought a little black dress to wear on my 7 yr anniversary next year. I think, if they still fit at that time, I'll break them out then. Funny cus I wore them then. I'm proud of my smaller lumpy body right now.
