    Default Fluid issues

What is the purpose of not drinking 30 minutes before and after a meal? I am really struggling with this. I get so thirsty and just have to have a sip or two of something while I am eating and right after I eat. Is this going to be a major issue? Anybody else struggling with this? Please help!

My doctor says stop 15 minutes before I eat, nothing while I eat and nothing til an hour after I'm done. It is tough! I've gotten used to the first two parts but the hour after is tough. I try to drink extra before dinner to make it easier and it has helped.

    Hi Jazzi,
I was told that too. I try to wait 30 min to drink also and there are times it is almost impossible. The logic behind that is so you do not fill your new little tummy up and have no room to get your proteins in. Everyone is different and I can handle a sip here and there during a meal. You will need to test the waters and see what you can handle. Good Luck!!!

My nutrition said when you drink with your meals it helps the food to slide right through so you end up eating more. I take small sips, and I make sure I don't eat more than I've put on my small plate. :-) Its annoying really, I'm 6 weeks out and have yet to drink more than 6 glasses of water water a day.

I wait 15 before and 15 to 30 after. Although I always forget to look at the clock.

Hey there - a naturopath many years ago advised not to drink with meals. Dilutes the digestive juices a little, helps fastrack foods through your system - so they slide on through rather than digested fully.
I've kind of stuck by it and now chew more thoroughly rather than wash my dinner down.

Thanks everyone! I will try harder to follow this rule...this is the worst of all things I have experienced so far. I have no struggles in any other area since my surgery! I guess I should be thankful it is the only issue I have really had! Thanks for all the input though and at least I know it is normal for this to be so hard!
