I went through Kaiser, Fremont and my doctor is Dr. Hahn. I had my surgery on June 29th and I got home last Tuesday. Lots of problems!

Some of you Kaiser peeps might want to join the Kaiser group we have here!

I live in Sonoma county, and had gastric sleeve surgery in Jan of this year. 70 lbs down, 30 more to go. Weight loss is slowing down, but I am also more fit, and have gone from size 18W pants that were tight, to size 12 loose pants now. Still tweaking my eating, working on head hunger, but feel sooooo much better, and my nickname at work is now "skinny".
Hi Rachel,
I hope things are going better for you. I had Dr. Chu as my Surgeon. I love her!!! I met Dr. Hahn the week after my surgery in the ER. I wound up with a 911 call with a temp of 105.7. Vomiting, uncontrollable shaking, head and major body aches, after a week in the hospital, 9 trips to radiology, including a spinal tap, life is much better. Hang in there and it will get better
Hi. I am in the Bay Area(San Jose) and had my surgery 10 days ago in Fremont with Dr. Lawrence Dennen. Wonderful Dr. from the beginning! He answered all my questions before I could even ask them!!! I only had to do a one day Stage II pre-op diet! I was 311 when first approached by my PCP in January and then 303 when I saw Dr. Dennen in March and given a goal of 275 to be able to have the surgery. I was 264 the day of surgery and now I am 254!!! 10 days post-op! I needed this boost to keep me on track the rest of my life but it wasn't that I was eating a lot but not eating properly. Like for instance, I would go all day without eating and then I would have my first meal of the day at 10pm and it was usually fast food or I would go to Costco mid-afternoon and order a Chicken Caesar Salad and that's all I would eat all day. I wasn't trying to lose weight but per se maintain and not gain and then other days I might have two well balanced meals. I was getting tired of my destructive eating pattern and tired of weight loss fad diets. The gastric sleeve is one of the best things I have done to better my life. Congratulations to us all for heading in the right direction!!!
Howdy!!!
I can pretty much et anything I want. There a few things that are NOT worth the effort. Things with extra oil or fat, because they will literally go right through you. You had better be near a bathroom. Also really sweet things. I get a dumping syndrome and it will make me throw up. But other then that, the best meal to make sure you eat is your breakfast. It will set the tone for the rest of the day as to wh you will want to eat and if you decide to snack. I have found I stay fuller all day if I do eat breakfast. If not, the beast has woken and it's on big time !!! You will Aldo find there are things you liked before, but cannot even stand the smell of anymore. Good luck to you and I'm looking forward to more posts !
There are two California threads, one California and the other Southern CA, not sure how active they are.
There is also a Kaiser group that includes people in the Bay Area and LA; stop by and see us; post in the Upcoming Surgeries thread and we'll cheer you on! There are a few of us going to SSF.

I'm in the Sacramento area. Dr. Steven Patching on December 7th at Sutter General Hosital. Just less than 2 weeks away. Hope I've made a good decision. Feeling scared and questioning myself. Coming this far doesn't make a lot of sense to back out now. Having what I wanted for Thanksgiving and now regretting it, stomach hurts. Figured this is my last big meal for the rest of my life. Don't think I'm really going to miss those big meals either. Been eating in the lifestyle for 3 months now and I like the lighter feeling of eating less and I'm over my sugar and carb cravings most of the time, but I am hungry a lot. Hoping this surgery will help me in the long run maintain a healthy weight. That's my goal, to have a healthy weight. I'm only 5'1" and I've weighed as much as 250 in my life and as little as 125. I have a small frame and under all of this is a small person. Pre-surgery weight loss is giving me a good feeling of what it will be like to weigh less. Can't wait until this is over and I'm on the other side recovered from the surgery and just living my more healthy lifestyle.
Hi--I also live in the Sacto area, and I'm a Sutter patient, but I have to get my sleeve at UCSF because I have a lap band and no one covered by my insurance, does revisions to sleeves in the Sacramento area. Dr. Patching refuses to do it. Good luck with your surgery; my girlfriend had surgery with him. I've had other surgeries at Sutter General and they treated me very well.
