    Default Al Roker

Did anyone see the Today Show interview with Al Roker. He discussed the gastric bypass he had 10 years ago. He initially lost a lot of weight (130 lbs I think) then gain 40 back because he hadn't changed since eating habits and hadn't dealt with unlying psychological issues. He said despite he a highly successful weather guy, he felt unworthy and like people were going to see him as a fraud. Some of what he said really hit home for me because I've struggled with the same feelings despite being successful in my own field. Like him, I sought comfort from those feelings through food. Interesting.

Didn't see it but since he gained only a portion of the weight back I'd say it was successful! Also, just my personal opinion but I think he looks much healthier now than he did when he was thinner...so perhaps his body just decided to settle in a bit higher than he wanted but at a place good for him otherwise.

CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

Didn't see the interview but it makes sense. I know a lot of people think having to talk to a physiologist before surgery is stupid but I think it is important to start addressing the reasons for obesity right away. I have seen her 4 times already and I don't know if it is really helping but has at least made me think and maybe I am changing attitude toward food. We can't change the past but we can change the future. It looks brighter already. Wishing you all the best.

I did see the interview and it was interesting indeed. I have to agree with Grace that he appears much healthier than when he was thinner. But hopefully he is dealing with his emotions and has found another outlet besides food. I believe it is something we all struggle with and deal with on a daily basis...best of luck to you.

I know what you mean Bryan, no matter what I do or how I act, I feel like a fraud. Since the sleeve and the plastics I just had done I am starting to feel like I am finding who I really am. I am starting to feel authentic and it isn't about how I look but that I no longer hide behind food and protective fat. I like to hear when celebrities and others in the public eye talk openly about WLS it helps the rest of us.
God gave us people to love and things to use, not things to love and people to use.
