Hey Lisa. I still get nauseated from time to time and my surgery was 3/1/11. To help me I use lemon juice in my drinks. I use the 100% lemon juice that you can purchase at the grocery store and I actually squeeze real lemons in my drinks (including water). I have noticed that it helps a little. I had nausea so bad at one time that my doctor precribed some medication. Now that was Heavon sent. It worked wonderfully. But I'm not one to take medication, so I use the lemon juice. I hope this helps you.
The medication is called Promethazine (Sub. for Phenergan). It really works. The only side effects I notice are dizzziness and drowsiness. It will make you VERY sleepy!. I also noticed the amount of weight you loss since your surgery. That's AMAZING! I had my surgery the 1st of March and I only lost 50lbs. What are you doing to lose sooo much? Please share. I would love to lose weight quickly. Also try the lemon juice and let me know how it works. Good luck
Thanks Yvette! I have a lot more weight to lose than you do, so of course it's going to come off faster for me. Also if you read my other posts I had several complications a month after my surgery so I think being sick and not eating as much as I should have for several weeks also played a huge factor. I hope I still keep losing this much weight at this pace, though...but I know I will eventually end up slowing down. I am finally starting to feel better and I am already noticing it. 50 pounds is a lot for you ! Congrats! Think of it this way, you're already 1/3 of a way toward your goal weight!
I was so nauseas for the first for days after surgery, once I started taking in liquids which were primarily protein and liquid vitamins. I was so sick of the taste of medicine type things I decided to lay off it a day. In a few hours I felt some better but so empty that I needed relief, I was having spasm in my esophagus even before surgery bc of the emptiness. So I ate a tiny piece of meat and chewed it to nothing. Even better, so I took a piece of bread the half the size of a penny and chwed it to nothing. I felt one hundred percent better! I know I will get fussed for that and I do not advocate it but it worked. A week later when I try to take protein I start wretching, painfully! Another thing, crysta light has always made me nauseas. Bc of the food dye I think, maybe the clear protein has similar qualities. Cept the shakes do the same. I diluted them with skim milk. and prefer just the skim milk an ounce at a time. I hope this helps and u feel better soon!

I had my surgery last November. I was fortunate to not have a lot of issues but one thing that has been a nuisance is how I feel after I eat. I never feel "good" after I eat. I still actually feel sick sometimes, but only if I eat too much. And by that, it is still a very small amount, but even one bite too much can take you over the edge. I'm not sure how much you are eating at a time, but you could try cutting in down, then eating again 30-60 minutes later.
50 pounds is a lot of weight in that short of time.
I am 3 weeks post op and I ran out of the Scop patches they prescribed when I left the hospital and started getting nauseous when it is time to take my meds each morning and again in the evenings. They did not give me any refills on the Scop patches but I do have a script for the promethazine, I've just been reluctant to take it because it can make me sleepy and I cannot afford that during work hours.
I am on welbutrin for depression, actigall, glipizide for diabetes, levothyroxine for my thyroid, and then my vitamins and supplements on top of all that...I'm not sure if it's one or the combination but as soon as I get through my med regimen it's all I can do to keep from throwing everything up the nausea is so bad. I'm praying this goes away soon because I hate taking pills and I know that my natural tendency is to avoid taking things that make me feel sick. I know I need these medications and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my health or set me back but man I can't take this nausea much longer!
Within the last month of so, I've started having trouble with nausea when I take meds. I don't take quite as many as you do, but what I do take is making me sick. In fact, I've started not taking everything that I'm supposed to be taking. While that's helped a lot with the nausea, I know it isn't good for me, and I suspect when I go for my three month blood work I'm going to get in trouble for it.
Wow! Everyone wrote a little bit of my nausea woes. Lol I think it might be the vitamins but then sometimes I eat and I feel great and then about 15-20 minutes I feel sick. Sometimes a small sip of water will help but sometimes it will go down and when it gets in the stomach, I have a hard knot sensation and then usually the nausea will follow but last for a few seconds. Sometimes a walk will help. Other times I lay down if it's overwhelming and slowing my breathing down and take small sips of extremely ice cold water to shut my body down. The ice cold water trick workd everytime for me if I can sip it at the onset or mild nausea. If it kicks in, I can take anything down so I will get naked and put the fan on full blast and make myself ice cold. Lol Nutty me If I am out, the car air conditoner works like a charm too. I am trying to monitor the triggers but to no avail, have I had any success. I digress!
If the anti-nausea meds are making you sick go to the doc and get the suppositories. I used them for about 24 hours then I was fine. I ate ice chips, water, and popsicles, and Gatorade when I was nauseated. Go back to clear liquids and give yourself some time to get well.
