Elliptical

So is using the elliptical okay one week out? I'm not tolerating this cold weather well and walking outside is miserable.

My doc said to stay away until after third week. He only allowed me to walk slowly on treadmill.

Mine said yesterday at one week check that I could do anything I wanted. (I think he knew I didn't want to go out running or anything). I am trying to walk 20-30 minutes everyday. Haven't made it everyday but I am trying. Went to the mall one day when it was raining.

My Doc said my Elliptical was fine as long as I didn't go over my regular walking pace. I'm chomping at the bit to be able to pick up the pace though.

I've been doing my elliptical since a week out (2 days ago). But totally surprised at what a hit I took cardiovascularly. Not even a high intensity and I'm gasping by 8 minutes.

Like others have said if you're going to do it make it low intensity, and keep it at equivalent of walking pace. Also be mindful of how you use your stomach muscles to brace and twist while you're getting on/off it because you don't want to overstrain your abdominal wall which has had a series of splits at the incision sites.

I understand what you mean, once I get into my house I am going to invest in either a gym membership or some home gym equipment, a little over 5 years ago I was running 5 miles a day, on top of military PT classes in the mornings...I dread to see how far I have fallen in regards to exercise!
