Default Question About Staples Used For Surgery

Hello all! I've been researching gastric sleeve surgery and have a question about the staples used to close the stomach. I'm guessing the staples are permanent...is that correct? Are they ever removed? Do they dissolve? The thought of permanent staples inside my body makes me really nervous.

Thanks for your help answering my question! : )

The staples are titanuium and very tiny. My understanding is that they stay in you for life. there's a youtube video with Dr Alvarez showing how its done and the size of the staples if you search for it. I think its under endo bariatric. I can't get onto youtube here at work or I'd post it for you

I had surgery on the Wednesday and was back to the office on the Tuesday. I overdid it the first day back and was wiped out so I did 1/2 days the rest of that week. I have a desk job. Be prepared to be very very tired! I wish I had taken off 2 weeks!

I'm doing great. I've pretty much lost every day. The days I didn't, I made up for it with double the next day

Hi, I took 2 weeks off work and that was a good amount for me. I have a desk job but I was VERY tired for the first two weeks after surgery. Once you start eating something you feeling better. Also with regards to the staples, look at the you tube video by Dr Alvarez - it's great. They stay in forever but scar tissue forms over them - but they are microscopic. Good luck.

I was worried about the staples until I found out from Waning Woman that I had the same staples when I had my lungectomy. I was concerned about being allergic to them, but she calmed my fears. The first two weeks you may feel weak; because, a liquids only diet tends to make you that way. As soon as you start eating mushy foods, you start to feel a lot better. May your journey be successful.Lol...Bonnie

The above video was enlightening for me concerning staples.
