    Default 6 weeks today

    Hello everyone

I am 40 and 6 weeks ago I was sleeved in Sydney, Australia and
what an amazing ride this has been so far.

The surgery was great and the only pain suffered was the abdomen
pain you suffer from the surgeon pumping you full of gas!

As most of us who have been sleeved know it is a learning process
to get to know your new 'pouch' and I am still definitely learning.

I have been sick a few times but I know this was due to me not
chewing enough or eating something that my mind told me I could
eat but my stomach wasn't ready for. Lesson learnt!!

I have lost just over 20kg (approx 44 pounds). I have at least that
to lose again and this time I'm going to do it and keep it off.

I would recommend this surgery to anyone who lives with obesity.

I have never spoken on a site before so I thank you for reading this
and look forward to discussions within this site.

    JG 99

    Hi JG 99,
Thanks for posting, I'm booked for my sleeve on 11 October and I love hearing how people are going. Have you had to be on predominently a liquid diet most of this first six weeks?
    Cheers

    Hi Sheree

My Doctor and Dietician told me I'd be on pureed for 4 weeks but by 3 weeks my teeth were dying to chew something and the vitamin tablets just weren't doing it for me!! I wasn't and still not 'hungry' but that mind-set of just needing to chew was there.

4 -6 weeks is soft diet and then from 6 -8 weeks I am told I can start tolerating a normal diet. Your slow cooker is wonderful to keep your protein meats soft to eat.

I did try softer foods but obviously my Dr etc was correct and I wasn't ready for this and therefore spent a short time being sick!

Funny as it may sound I have struggled with egg. Each time I have eaten egg it seems to bounce back although I tried a soft poached one recently and had success. They are quite sticky and heavy on your new pouch.

I had my first little bit of salad recently and found it very refreshing and easy to eat if you chew, chew, chew!

I hope this helps a little.

All the very best to you for the 11th October. I look forward to hearing of your progress.

    Cheers, JG 99

    Thanks JG 99,
Funny, one hang over from when I had my band 9 years ago is the chewing, that habit stayed with me, I take longer than anyone else to finish a meal still cause I chew everything to puree! So that might be a blessing for me with my sleeve. I don't think I'll ever forget the feeling I experienced when I first got the band and ate something that was just not chewed enough, I never want to go through that dry reaching regurgitation again! I think maybe that's why my band slipped in the first place. It was such a relief to have it out. So I have great expectations and hopes for the sleeve!
    Cheers

Red face Re: 6 weeks today

    Hi Jersey Girl...

I am 44 and 3 weeks since being sleeved... Best decision of my life after battling with weight issues for the last 20 years.

In my first 3 weeks, I have already lost about 25lbs and have never been so encouraged. I haven't had to take a BP bill since the morning of my surgery! Sleep apnea / snoring, inability to walk due to pressure on knees, depression meds - ALL are already things of my past!

Must agree that the belly full of gas was the worst part! We sleever's should come with a warning "Beware under pressure" those first few days lol!

Seriously though, the journey has just begun for many of us but following the guidelines and staying serious about this life changing operation will see us all through wonderful success stories.

For those about to get sleeved, follow your doc's guidelines. You'll not regret it!

I'm excited to be getting my life back!

    Regards,

    Hi Teally 65
Welcome to the site and thanks for posting!
It's amazing what that small amount of
weight coming off can do for us physically and
    psychologically.
    After almost 8 weeks post-op I feel like a
    new woman.
Congratulations on your decision to have the sleeve and
I look forward to hearing your progress.
    Cheers
    JG 99

Wow losing 20 kgs in only 6 weeks is what I dream of! I'm having the sleeve done in January and would so love to lose that amount of weight too. Congratulations on doing so well and good luck with continued loss! Kris.

Hey Kris, thanks for your message. It is a dream after trying for years and years. My Doctor informs me that I have a window of approx 9 months to lose as much weight as I can before it starts to slow/stop. This beginning has certainly given me the boost to continue with what I started. I really do feel like a new me!! Good luck for January. JG 99
