hurts when food goes down :(

Gday everyone. I'm 7 days post op & on my liquids & some mushy stuff. When I swallow its fine (can b anything).... wait 10 seconds then it feels like it's reached my stomach. It then contracts(?) And hurts for about 3 very pain seconds & is gone. Is this what others have experienced? It's tolerable if it gets better & goes away but not if it's always going to b like this

I'm 6 days out right now and do not have any pain at all when swallowing. I do get an occasional pain (almost like heartburn but different)for a couple seconds at the top of my stomach when I'm not eating. Does it come every time that you swallow?

I had pain when food would hit my stomache also. It lasted about a month. Remember you are still healing

Are you taking tiny sips and spoonfuls? I mean really tiny. It may be that you are swallowing things that are too big for your new (swollen from surgery) tummy. It does not heal as fast as the places you can see. It takes a month or so for the little tummy.

iam 12 days post opt and i have only had liquid, i was told if it dosn't run through a straw don't have it, so tomorrow i go for my 1st app after surgery and hoping to move to puree stage....i would suggest just fluids, custard with milk in it to thin it down and cup of soups (strained) and water and orange juice with no plup...thats what i have been doing and no problems here at all.....

It may be that your are adding things to quickly for your swollen little tummy. When I tried things that were to thick and solid to quickly it was difficult to swallow, I slowed down and things got better quickly. Remember your are still swollen, take your time!

It's no problem swallowing, just when it gets to my stomach it hurts. And this is for anything! The smallest of sips to an 1/8 of a teaspoon of yoghurt. I wonder if it's my poor belly recovering. I've had this sensation from day 1

i had straight liquids for 3 weeks. I'd go straight liquids for a couple of days and try again.

Also try standing while you eat. Most of the time I can sit and other times I can't stand up fast enough. Happens with both drinking and eating. Try using a baby spoon to keep you in check. That also works really good for me.

Thanks everyone. I've gone back to liquid & feeling better. Not as much pain & yes definitely agree with standing while drinking at times, its all gravity!! Thanks everyone for your help
