Eosinophilic esophagitis (eosinophilic oesophagitis) is an allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus. Symptoms are swallowing difficulty, food impaction, and heartburn. Just curious How many on here may have this?
I actually have wondered if this is what I have. I ONLY experience these symptoms (including heartburn) when I'm having an allergy attack. It's very strange, and can be scary.
I was diagnosed with ee about 3 years ago after years of periodic swallowing problems. Saw GI, who initially diagnosed ee. Sent me to allergist who told me one of foods I was allergic to was rice. I didn't believe at first as swallowing problem never happened while I was eating rice. Fast forward about 9 months to a very scary food impaction with RICE. Docs say NO MORE RICE. Have been rice free for 3 years and zero swallowing issues or food impaction. I avoid all rice, rice flour, rice everything . . .
Sometimes I gets sore throat and I swallow difficulty.
I have EOE. It's awful. I went 20 years with it before I found out what it was. Now I take Protonix 2x a day and a compound mixture of Budesonide. It's magic!! No more issues with swallowing and food getting stuck. I have had some many EGD's to get food out it's ridiculous. My GI doctor is amazing.
