Day 3 Post Op More Painful!

So, today was post op day 3 for me. I have had increased pain on my left side compared to yesterday. My doctor isn't concerned since I'm not running a fever and the painful area is not hot to the touch. He told me to keep walking but to lighten up on other activities. I'm following the diet as instructed, too. I also avoid laying on that side. I'm just curious, has anyone else found that day 3 was more painful than post op day 2? When did it get better?

It does get better really it does. If he gave you liquid loritab don't hesitate to use it. My surgery was a Wednesday and released from hospital on Friday, that was my worst day. It progressively got better each day.

I could only lie on my back for the first week or so, twisting in bed I couldn't do and it hurt when I would go from lying to sitting and sitting to standing. My doc told me that he had put an internal stitch at the largest incision site where they pulled the stomach out to help the healing, which made early recovery more painful, but he said would be better for my longer term abdominal strength.

I had that too. day 2 and 3. Today it is better. had my surgery on saturday. så it does get better. just hang in there!

Tummy pillow is a wonderful thing and get a support wrap for your tummy I did and it was wonderful the first 4 weeks post op. I don't think I would have made it with out them two things. And now like wearing the support wrap just cause it holds me in just a little. But it gets better hang in there

Thanks so much for the encouragement. Can you tell me where you got the security wrap? Is it something you can get at Walgreens?

Dr. Hoehn did my surgery too. My left side hurt for about 6 weeks. It felt really tight because of the internal stitches. It takes about 6 weeks for them to dissolve. I switched sides of my bed as well. It made it easier to get up. Also if there isn't a chair in your room have someone put one in there so you can sit up more. Walk circles around your living room. It helps. By day 7 you should be getting around much better. It took me about 3 weeks to get all my energy back. I eebt back to work at 2 weeks out. Congratulations on your new start!

I had my surgery with Dr. Hoehn on 10/2. I had immense pain from day 3 to day 8. It completely shocked me. I couldn't stand up straight until day 7. After the staples were out, it was a relief. But I did continue to have some pain until about 2 weeks post op and then it would just come and go. Other than occasional stinging in my large incision, I am pain free finally. Good luck!
